BMT is seeking a Marine Incident Investigator to lead inspections and investigations across Europe and globally. You will assess incidents, advise clients, and produce detailed reports while engaging with shipowners, insurers, and maritime stakeholders.

The role requires seagoing experience, strong nautical knowledge, and the ability to travel on short notice. Fluency in English is essential, with Dutch or French as a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree, preferably from a Maritime University (or equivalent education).
• Seagoing experience as Master Mariner, Chief Officer, or similar nautical role.
• Previous experience as a Marine Incident Investigator.
• Extensive knowledge of vessel operations, cargo handling and maritime practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (Dutch and/or French is a plus).

Responsabilités

• Conducting vessel inspections and marine incident investigations.
• Investigating marine incidents, casualties, and damage claims.
• Assessing cargo-related incidents and operational issues on board vessels.
• Identifying causes of damage and providing factual, independent advice to clients.
• Advising clients on loss mitigation, recovery actions, salvage options, and preventative measures.
• Preparing clear, accurate, and professional reports within agreed timelines.
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with shipowners, insurers, P&I clubs, brokers, terminals, and other maritime stakeholders.
• Supporting business development activities and identifying new survey opportunities within the maritime sector.

Are you an experienced maritime professional with a passion for shipping operations, vessel inspections, and marine investigations? Do you enjoy working in diverse environments, from vessels and ports to terminals and logistics hubs around the world?

BMT is looking for an experienced Marine Incident Investigator to join our growing marine incident investigation team. In this role, you will use your nautical expertise to investigate marine incidents, conduct inspections, assess damages, and provide independent advice to clients across the maritime industry.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced expert with a drive to accelerate in a globally operation maritime consultancy.

The Role

You will work independently on a wide range of marine assignments throughout Europe as well as globally. You will frequently attend vessels, terminals, warehouses, and ports to perform inspections and investigations on behalf of clients.

Key responsibilities include:

About you

You are a maritime professional with strong observational and analytical skills. You feel comfortable working independently, communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, and making sound professional judgments under pressure.

We are looking for someone with:

• A Bachelor's degree, preferably from a Maritime University (or equivalent education).
• Seagoing experience as Master Mariner, Chief Officer, or similar nautical role.
• Previous experience as a Marine Incident Investigator.
• Extensive knowledge of vessel operations, cargo handling and maritime practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (Dutch and/or French is a plus).
• The ability to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative team environment.
• A flexible, hands-on attitude and willingness to travel at short notice when required.
