Job summary

Pauwels Consulting is seeking a Mainframe Developer to support core policy management systems in a Belgian environment. You will perform analysis, development, and testing within an agile setting to maintain applications for insurance policies, claims, and finance.

The role requires strong COBOL on IBM mainframes, z/OS, and CICS/VSAM expertise. You will work in a hybrid regime with at least two days onsite, contributing to a sprint-based team and collaborating across stakeholders.

Qualifications

5+ years of COBOL development experience.
Experience with IBM Mainframe systems and z/OS environments using CICS and VSAM.
Knowledge of Batch processing, JCL, and SDSF.
RDz proficiency for development and analysis.
Strong problem-solving, hands-on mindset, and ownership within a sprint-based agile team.
Fluent in Dutch and English; basic knowledge of French.

Responsibilities

Execute technical analysis and qualitative development for mainframe applications.
Develop software using COBOL V5 on IBM z/OS platforms.
Perform component testing, bug fixing, and provide second and third-line support.
Translate business requirements into technical solutions while adhering to quality and architectural guidelines.
Document developed software and ensure technical components are optimized for reuse.
Collaborate actively within an agile team to deliver high-quality increments during sprints.
