Our client, a prominent public sector organization in Belgium, is looking for an expert to lead the evolution of their regional data ecosystem, defining the reference architecture, ensuring semantic clarity and interoperability while guiding the transition to a modern, information-driven government infrastructure.

You will develop target architectures and guidelines for the data platform landscape, guide modernization of data exchange and API-driven integrations, and ensure interoperability,

Qualifications

• 8+ years in data architecture managing complex Data Standards, Data Modeling, and large-scale ecosystem challenges.
• 8+ years applying GDPR, DPIA, and risk analysis within an enterprise or public sector context.
• 5+ years designing API and Integration Architectures including REST, SOAP, and API Governance.
• 5+ years with Cloud and Hybrid Cloud principles including Azure or AWS.
• Deep knowledge of Data Governance, Metadata Management, and Data Quality principles.
• Security protocols such as OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and Zero Trust principles.
• Experience with Microservices and Event-Driven Messaging.
• Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), GitOps, and scripting languages.
• Dutch language at C2 level.

• Guide modernization trajectories for data exchange and API-driven integrations.
• Ensure interoperability, digital security, and compliance within the reference architecture.
• Support project teams with technical architectural decisions and complex data modeling questions.
• Document architectural choices using Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) and perform impact analyses.
• Establish data governance frameworks, metadata management strategies, and quality principles.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to align data architecture with cloud-native and AI-driven applications.

• 8+ years of experience in data architecture managing complex Data Standards, Data Modeling, and large-scale ecosystem challenges.
• 8+ years of experience applying GDPR, DPIA, and risk analysis within an enterprise or public sector context.
• 5+ years of experience designing API and Integration Architectures including REST, SOAP, and API Governance.
• 5+ years of experience with Cloud and Hybrid Cloud principles including Azure or AWS.
• You possess deep knowledge of Data Governance, Metadata Management, and Data Quality principles.
• You bring expertise in security-related protocols such as OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and Zero Trust principles.
• You have experience with modern integration patterns such as Microservices and Event-Driven Messaging.
• You have a working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), GitOps, and scripting languages.
• You are proactive and solution-oriented.
• You are fluent in Dutch with a C2 level.

Nice to Haves

• Experience using Jira and Confluence for architectural documentation and backlog management.
• Knowledge of architectural frameworks such as TOGAF, Archimate, ITIL, and PRINCE2.
• Familiarity with Data Mesh, Analytics, and Business Intelligence concepts.
• Understanding of semantic interoperability standards such as OSLO.

• Start date: 01/10/2026
• Duration: project length until 15/07/2027
• Work regime: Full-time
• Location: Brussels and Ghent
• Working model: Hybrid (minimum 50% onsite in Brussels)
• Contract: open to both permanent employees and freelancers
