BloomUp is a Belgian startup on a mission to make mental wellbeing accessible to everyone. We connect employees to psychologists and coaches offering confidential, stigma-free support, and we help people grow resilience through digital, guided wellbeing journeys.
We're a team of 8 passionate Bloomies driven by one purpose:
We enable people to flourish by making mental wellbeing truly accessible.
Our culture is built on:
- support and safety
- authenticity and inclusion
- openness and vulnerability
- curiosity and learning
- pragmatism and meaningful impact
BloomUp already has a platform in production, paying clients in the 200+ employee segment, partnerships with prevention services like Groep IDEWE and CLB Group, and more product ideas than hands to build them. That gap is why this role exists.
You will be our engineering owner: the person responsible for what we ship and for what runs in production.
Your Role: Lead AI-Native Engineer (Belgium)
What you will do
Own the infrastructure
- Run our cloud environments end to end: provisioning, deploys, environments, CI/CD, rollbacks.
- If it's 23h and something is down, you know where to look. You don’t need to build this from scratch. Everything is there and running.
- Own the database: schema design, migrations, backups, and a restore you have actually tested.
- Maintain and improve observability worth having (logs, traces, alerts on the things that matter) instead of a dashboard nobody opens.
- Manage secrets, access, and the boring parts of security posture. Least privilege, audited, documented.
- Watch cost. Cloud spend and LLM spend both. Know the per-client marginal cost of what you build.
Ship the client-facing product
- Build the employee-facing flows (online access point, matching, BloomUp Learn growth tracks) and the HR-facing side (early detection surveys, dashboards, reporting).
- Ship them yourself, front to back, without handoffs.
- The team (including yourself) sets product and flow direction. Together with Clovis, the founder, you’ll create UI and flows. You own architecture, implementation and delivery, and you push back when the flow is wrong. If you'd rather be told exactly what to build, this will frustrate you.
Automate our own machine
- Automate our internal operations (n8n workflows, CRM plumbing, Metabase reporting) so a team our size can behave like a bigger one.
- Build the infrastructure our agents run on: sandboxes, and CI checks that catch what review misses.
- When something breaks twice, fix the system instead of the symptom.
Sit close to the client
- Join client and partner calls. If a conversation with an HR director moves the company more than a sprint, take the call.
- Work directly with CS, sales and marketing, and translate what you hear into product.
- Be an ambassador of BloomUp's mission.
What you don't own
- External pentesting and ISO 27001 / NIS2, always done by consultants.
- Design system and brand: Clovis and Benji are working on this.
- Clinical content and clinical safety judgement. Our psychologists own that. You build the guardrails they ask for.
- Commercial ownership of tenders, contracts and DPAs. That's Clovis.
Better to know now
You carry the pager, because there's nobody else to carry it. What that has actually meant: 1 to 2 incident per year. When you're on holiday, Clovis covers and we accept a slower response. We'd rather tell you this now than have you discover it in month two.
Who You Are
You're a builder who measures yourself by what users get, not by how much code you wrote.
You'll thrive here if you're…
- Genuinely interested in mental wellbeing and why it matters at work.
- Happiest when you own what runs, not only what you wrote.
- Already building with agents daily, and opinionated about where they fail.
- Thinking in systems rather than tickets.
- Able to take product direction from someone else and still argue when the flow is wrong.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and a roadmap that shifts.
- Collaborative, warm, and motivated by team success.
- Fine with transparency: salaries, numbers, and decisions are open here.
What we're looking for
- Real backend depth. You can design a schema and an API, not only consume one.
- Solid TypeScript and React. You'll build interfaces, and you should be able to hold your own in a discussion about a flow.
- Infrastructure you have actually operated, not only read about: containers, CI/CD, a managed cloud (Scaleway or comparable), Postgres, and infrastructure as code.
- You have been on call for something, or you have carried a production incident from alert to fix to post-mortem.
- Daily practice with AI coding tools, plus judgement about their output.
- Experience with sensitive or regulated data (health, GDPR, security questionnaires, ISO 27001 or NIS2 work) is a strong plus.
- Based in Belgium, present in the Antwerp office 2 to 3 days per week.
- We speak Dutch internally and with our clients. We're open to English-speaking profiles.
