About the role
We are currently looking for a Junior Gear Design Engineer to join our torque transfer team. Below you can read what we are looking for specifically in this profile.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements
- You are technically educated and have a strong interest in gear design and want to understand the manufacturing processes.
- A first experience in gear design software would ofcourse be beneficial: KissSoft, MASTA, and LDP.
You will learn more about :
- optimizing gear systems, such as three-gear pairs and planetary gear trains, considering cost, durability, and NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) requirements.
- GD&T tolerance analysis, performing tolerance stacks and guiding CAD engineers in creating detailed component drawings.
- Design-for-manufacturability discussions with global suppliers to ensure efficient and cost-effective production.
- Develop technical requirements for components and subsystems of c hybrid transmissions.
- Complete all required technical source package documentation to support supplier quotes
- Evaluate designs to the engineering best practice documents and complete supplier design reviews
- Capture all lessons learned, and ensure execution of all calculations, analysis, and simulation
- Develop DFMEAs and access designs for failure modes robustness
- Develop and execute DVP&R plans to validate all aspects of new designs and design changes
- Develop Tools, Test Procedures and Acceptance Criteria for transmission components, subassemblies and purchased assemblies
- Collaborate appropriate Design Detailing and CAE activities for new designs and design updates
- Deliver EBOM, models, drawings for components, subassemblies, and purchased assemblies
- Deliver parts / hardware to pilot builds
- Support manufacturing on production related issues
- Generate and implement cost reduction ideas
- Ability to lead team of four (R&D, Purchaing, Quality, Assembly) during development and serial life phases.
- Participate in warranty/cost reduction meetings and develop solutions for warranty issues
- solving issues through methodologies like 8D and 6Sigma.
- Conduct root cause analysis of transmission failures and identify the root cause/s
- Collaborate with transmission and driveline systems group to address and support any failures using the appropriate tools and processes
- Provides guidance and direction to suppliers through resourcing, process or sourcing changes, and development using the appropriate change management system
Qualifications:
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, or related field.
- The will to understand the product development processes.
- Strong interest or first experience in gear design and manufactring.
- A first knowledge of APQP and related tools (FMEA, PPAP, Control Plans) is a plus.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
