Van Bael & Bellis, Brussels-based leading independent law firm, seeks a Junior Digital, Data, and Cyber associate embedded in Brussels team to advise on data protection, ICT, IP/IT and AI developments. The role offers exposure to cross‑practice collaborations with commercial, competition, corporate and litigation teams.

You will conduct legal research, draft documents, support senior lawyers, and contribute to knowledge sharing and business development while thriving in a multilingual

Qualifications

  • Belgian law degree with excellent academic track record.
  • Master's degree from an English-speaking university is a plus.
  • Native Dutch speaker and fluent in English, with passive knowledge of French.

Responsabilités

  • Conduct legal research across data protection, ICT, IP/IT, cyber, and digital law.
  • Draft and review contracts, correspondence and memoranda.
  • Support senior lawyers (partners, counsel and senior associates) in client matters.

Function

As a member of the Brussels legal team, you will be embedded in our Digital, Data & Cyber practice, where you will assist clients with a broad range of issues spanning data protection, information and communication technology (including outsourcing and cloud projects), intellectual property, cyber security and the newest developments in digital law (including artificial intelligence). Given the cross-cutting nature of these fields, you will also regularly collaborate with our Commercial, Competition Law, Corporate and Litigation teams, giving you a full coverage of transactional, consultancy and dispute resolution work in technology related matters.

In this role, you will:
  • Conduct legal research across the full spectrum of the above legal areas;
  • Draft and review related legal documents, including contracts, correspondence and memoranda;
  • Support senior lawyers (partners, counsel and senior associates) in client matters;
  • Contribute to the development of the practice, including knowledge sharing and business development initiatives.

Job requirements

You have one to three years of relevant working experience and you hold a Belgian law degree with an excellent academic track record. An additional Master's degree from an English-speaking university is a plus;

You have a strong academic background in digital law, data protection, IP/IT law or commercial law, or relevant experience in one or more of these fields at a reputable law firm;

You have a genuine curiosity for the interplay between law, technology and data, and are eager to broaden your expertise into adjacent areas such as commercial law and litigation;

You are a native Dutch-speaker and are fluent in English, with at least passive knowledge of French (reading);

You have strong analytical and writing skills;

You are enthusiastic, proactive and professionally confident, with the ability to work independently while thriving as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team.
