Weber Shandwick Brussels is offering a six-month paid internship in EU Public Affairs under a CIP contract. The role provides exposure to policy analysis, stakeholder engagement and editorial work across sustainability, technology and health portfolios.

The trainee will join a collaborative team, support client requests, draft policy insights and contribute to campaigns. Fluency in English is required; other EU languages are a plus. Brussels based with hybrid work policy.

Qualifications

Our Weber Shandwick Brussels team works at the intersection of EU policy, business and public debate. We help clients understand and navigate complex policy and regulatory developments, engage relevant stakeholders, shape public affairs strategies and communicate complex issues clearly across our Sustainability, Technology and Health portfolios.

We are looking for a smart, curious and proactive intern to join our Brussels team for a six-month paid traineeship (CIP framework contract) starting in late October/November 2026.

What you’ll be doing

Our reputation for delivering engaging campaigns that strike up conversations between policy makers and companies means we're working with an enviable client list across a diverse range of sectors. Areas include climate and energy transition, social policy, transport and mobility, circular economy, digital policy, AI, data, connectivity and other emerging technology issues. Depending on client needs, there may also be opportunities to contribute to projects involving trade, financial services, agriculture and other regulated sectors.

The precise mix of work will depend on available client projects and team priorities; you would not be expected to have expertise across every topic listed above. Typical tasks would include:

• Monitoring and analysing EU policy, legislation, political developments and stakeholder positions.
• Supporting responses to client requests and contributing to the development and execution of public affairs, communication and engagement strategies.
• Working closely with account leads and the wider team to provide policy insights, background research and analysis, and support the production of client materials.
• Helping to translate complex policy and regulatory developments into clear, accessible narratives and recommendations.
• Contributing to thought-leadership and integrated campaigns, including stakeholder engagement, outreach, advocacy and events.
• Supporting editorial and digital content development, including briefings, newsletters, web content and social media materials.
• Contributing to marketing, proposals and business development activity, helping to demonstrate the team’s expertise and ability to navigate complex issues.

You will be introduced to client teams early in the traineeship and will gain experience across EU public affairs, policy analysis, stakeholder engagement and communications. The traineeship is structured around a formal training programme, with regular feedback and development support.

What we’re looking for

• A proactive, curious and collaborative person who is eager to learn.
• A strong interest in one or more of the following areas: sustainability, climate and energy policy, social policy, transport and mobility, digital policy, technology, AI, data or emerging regulation.
• A good understanding of EU policy and decision-making processes. Previous experience within an EU institution, international organisation, NGO, consultancy or relevant policy environment is an advantage.
• Strong research, analytical and writing skills, with the ability to understand complex issues and communicate them clearly.
• An interest in how public policy and regulation affect businesses, organisations and wider society.Good judgement, organisation and attention to detail.
• Fluent English. Knowledge of other EU languages is an advantage.
• A strong interest in developing a career in public affairs or policy-led consultancy.
• A university degree in political science, public affairs, international relations, law, sustainability, environmental policy, technology policy or another relevant field.

About the internship

This is a full-time professional traineeship (CIP contract) in Brussels and cannot be combined with ongoing university studies or another full-time work commitment. Applicants must hold existing authorisation to work in Belgium; we are not able to provide visa sponsorship or accept candidates who require a graduate search visa under the CIP framework.
