GEA Group is seeking an experienced Commissioning and Installation Engineer for Solids Belgium, based in Wommelgem. You will own the commissioning and installation phase of continuous manufacturing projects from FAT to start-up at customer sites.

You will lead a cross-functional team, coordinate with Project Management, Engineering, and Logistics, and travel internationally to sites. International assignments may be long-term, with a focus on safety, quality, and timely delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electromechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in installation, commissioning, maintenance of complex industrial equipment.
  • Experience in pharma equipment or regulated environments is an advantage.
  • Strong ability to read mechanical/electrical diagrams and process documentation.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and long-term assignments.

Responsabilités

  • Lead commissioning and installation of continuous manufacturing equipment at customer sites worldwide.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams across production, engineering, project management, logistics, and field service.
  • Ensure installation readiness and compliance with safety, quality, and site procedures.
  • Prepare installation and commissioning reports, checklists, and calibration records.

Join our newly formed Technical Service Support team for Solids Belgium, Wommgelgem and actively contribute to deliver high-quality and timely support to our global base of pharma and industrial customers.

Responsibilities / Tasks

As a (Continuous Manufacturing)I Commissioning and Installation Engineer at GEA, you will take ownership of the commissioning and installation phase of continuous manufacturing projects, from Factory Acceptance Testing through to successful start-up at the customer’s site.

You will act as the technical lead during this critical project phase, coordinating activities across production, engineering, project management, logistics, field service, and the customer’s organization. The role requires extensive international travel and may involve long-term assignments at customer sites.

  • Own and lead the commissioning and installation of continuous manufacturing equipment and production lines at customer sites worldwide.
  • Become involved in the project during the critical alignment/assembly- and Factory Acceptance Test phases at GEA’s production facility in Wommelgem.
  • Coordinate and oversee the identification, documentation, follow-up, and resolution of outstanding technical items and snag-list activities.
  • Support and supervise the preparation of equipment for shipment, including dismantling, preservation, packing, and handover to logistics.
  • Ensure that equipment is dismantled and packed in accordance with technical, quality, safety, and transportation requirements.
  • Coordinate with Project Management, Engineering, Production, Quality, Logistics, Field Service, and other internal stakeholders to ensure installation readiness.
  • Travel to the customer’s site and lead the mechanical and electrical installation of the equipment.
  • Coordinate and supervise GEA employees, subcontractors, local technicians, and customer personnel involved in installation and commissioning activities.
  • Verify that equipment has been installed correctly and in accordance with approved layouts, technical drawings, specifications, and safety requirements.
  • Lead commissioning activities, including equipment checks, calibration, functional testing, troubleshooting, and production-line start-up.
  • Support the execution of Site Acceptance Tests and other contractual testing and qualification activities.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues arising during installation and commissioning, in collaboration with the relevant engineering and specialist teams.
  • Maintain clear and regular communication with the customer, Project Manager, Service Manager, and other project stakeholders.
  • Monitor project progress, technical risks, open actions, resource requirements, and schedule adherence during the installation and commissioning phase.
  • Prepare and process installation reports, commissioning reports, checklists, calibration records, snag lists, and accurate time and expense reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with GEA and customer health, safety, quality, and site procedures.
  • Advise customers on the correct, safe, and efficient use of the equipment.
  • Provide structured feedback and lessons learned to improve equipment design, production, installation methods, commissioning processes, and future project execution.
  • Support the formal handover of the equipment or production line to the customer and the GEA service organization.

When not assigned to a specific continuous manufacturing project, you will support activities within the Wommelgem production facility and/or carry out field service interventions at customer sites. These activities may include equipment assembly, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, installation, commissioning, and technical support.

Your Profile / Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electromechanical Engineering, Automation, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Relevant experience in the installation, commissioning, maintenance, or technical support of complex industrial equipment or production lines.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical equipment, continuous manufacturing, process technology, automation, or regulated production environments is a strong advantage.
  • Good understanding of mechanical systems, electrical systems, instrumentation, automation, control systems, and industrial processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, electrical diagrams, process documentation, equipment layouts, and technical specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills, with a practical and hands‑on approach.
  • Able to take ownership of complex site activities and coordinate multiple technical disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Organized and capable of managing priorities, open actions, risks, and deadlines in a demanding project environment.
  • Customer‑oriented, service‑minded, and confident in communicating with customers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
