Nalco Water, an Ecolab Company, is seeking an Industry Technical Consultant to serve as a Subject Matter Expert for closed loop systems. This role is focused on closed loop chemistry, microbiology, fluid compatibility, and heat transfer performance. Direct-to-chip liquid cooling will be an important part of the role, as well as wider closed loop applications. Our Industry Technical Consultants support business growth, drive innovation, and transfer technical knowledge to help customers improve reliability, efficiency, and sustainability. As an Industry Technical Consultant and closed loop systems SME, you will provide practical technical leadership across customer applications, internal projects, and innovation programs. You will troubleshoot complex closed loop and thermal management challenges, train technical audiences, recommend operational improvements, and support the validation of new technologies. The role requires the ability to connect chemistry, materials compatibility, system operation, and heat transfer performance, while translating that expertise into clear recommendations for customers, sales teams, account managers, R&D, and marketing stakeholders.

Key Expertise Required

• Closed loop chemistry and water treatment, including corrosion control, microbiological risk management, scaling, fouling, passivation, inhibitor selection, and monitoring requirements
• Heat transfer and thermal performance, including the impact of fluid type, temperature, flow, materials, and operating conditions on system reliability and efficiency
• Heat transfer fluids, including water, glycol blends, low-conductivity fluids, inhibited formulations, and adjacent specialty fluids used in closed loop and liquid cooling applications
• Direct-to-chip liquid cooling as one important application area, including cold plates, cooling distribution units, secondary loops, fluid quality, and interfaces with wider facility infrastructure
• Adjacent technical experience from industrial cooling, HVAC, data center infrastructure, process engineering, mechanical systems, chemical treatment, or thermal management environments

What You Will Do

• Collaborate with field sales and corporate account teams to support industry-specific or strategic technical sales opportunities.
• Support direct-to-chip liquid cooling applications, including commissioning, as part of the wider closed loop portfolio, including cold plate, cooling distribution unit, secondary loop, and infrastructure interface considerations
• Work closely with clients to understand their closed loop and thermal management requirements, recommend suitable treatment and operational solutions, and provide training and support to ensure proper use and optimization of implemented systems.
• Lead problem solving efforts by utilizing various root cause analysis methodologies to resolve application or best practice concerns at customer sites
• Assess water treatment programs, recommend and quantify operational efficiency improvement projects in a documented report.
• Collaborate with R&D and Marketing on Innovation projects, from ideation to launch, by completing Phase Gate milestones such as refining value propositions, defining operational savings, creating technical documentation, and educating internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead innovation pilot applications, technical trials and market trials
• Delivers value to our customers utilizing a problem-solving mindset to deliver innovative results
• Facilitate training for associates and customers, sharing your specialized knowledge to foster skill development and proficiency.
• Coach individuals in the organization on processes, applications, technologies, and value documentation

Position Details

Your Profile

• Demonstrable technical expertise in closed loop systems, water treatment, thermal management, process engineering, HVAC, industrial cooling, data center infrastructure, or other adjacent technical fields
• Ability to apply core technical principles across chemistry, materials compatibility, fluid selection, heat transfer, automation, digital monitoring, equipment, and engineered solutions
• Inquisitive mind, challenging the status quo and embracing disruptive technologies
• Excellent communicator, able to consult, coach and mentor both internal stakeholders and customers alike

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science (Chemistry or Microbiology) 5+ years experience in closed loop water treatment, glycol-based systems, thermal management, data center infrastructure, direct-to-chip liquid cooling, or adjacent cooling and heat transfer applications
• Strong problem solving mindset and approach
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Self-motivated, pro-active, result-oriented professional with an ability to work with minimum direction.
• Excellent team orientation, proactivity and sense of urgency in supporting business growth and market leadership through differentiated technology and expertise
• Must have a valid Driver's License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record

Compensation Range

The annual pay range for this position is 63.200,00 - 79.000,00 - 94.800,00 EUR Annual (Italy). This position is eligible for annual bonus.
