Job summary

Sofico is seeking a Database Engineer (Oracle and SQL Server) to join the Ghent Platform Infrastructure Team. You will own mixed database estates, build new servers, patch, back up, and automate standard operations across on-prem and cloud environments.

You will collaborate with infrastructure and product teams to ensure secure, scalable, and compliant databases, contributing to governance and operational excellence in a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of hands-on production experience as a DBA or database engineer with Oracle and SQL Server
• Deep Oracle knowledge: installation, patching, multitenant, RMAN, Data Guard
• SQL Server expertise: installation, configuration, Always On, backups
• Proficient in Linux and Windows Server administration for databases
• Scripting in Bash/PowerShell; desire to automate with Ansible or Terraform

Responsibilities

• Deploy Oracle and SQL Server on VMs end to end including OS, storage, and security
• Create automated templates with Ansible and Terraform for consistent builds
• Apply planned patch cycles and version upgrades with rollback paths
• Backup, restore, and DR planning with RMAN and SQL Server backups
• Manage high availability and DR using Data Guard or Always On
• Monitor operations, troubleshoot performance, and manage incidents
• Handle licensing considerations and compliance for virtualized DBs
• Maintain runbooks and participate in on-call rotation
