Vlaams Instituut voor Biotechnologie (VIB) seeks a Health & Safety Manager (Prevention Advisor Level 1) to strengthen its prevention program. You will advise management, coordinate the global prevention plan, lead the internal prevention service, translate legislation into practice, and collaborate with HR, facilities, researchers and external partners.

Qualifications

• Certified Prevention Advisor Level 1 or close to certification.
• Master’s degree or equivalent level of thinking, preferably in life sciences, biomedical sciences, engineering or a related field.
• Extensive relevant experience in prevention and wellbeing, ideally in a complex, multi-site or matrix organization.
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills; ability to operate with multiple partners (e.g. universities, external services).
• Team-oriented mindset with ability to provide direction and support team members, driving impact across the organization.
• Strong experience with risk assessment approaches and prevention methodologies, translating these into org-wide practices.
• Able to combine strategic thinking with hands-on pragmatism.
• Analytical mindset with affinity for data-driven work.
• Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English.

Responsibilities

• Advise and support management on wellbeing domains (safety, biosafety, occupational health, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, psychosocial wellbeing).
• Prepare, coordinate and monitor the global prevention plan and annual action plans.
• Lead and develop the internal prevention service and its structure.
• Translate legislation into practice to support risk-based decision-making.
• Coordinate collaboration with HR, facilities, research centers, partner universities and external prevention service.
• Monitor incidents, risks and prevention data to guide priorities and improvements.
• Support and coach managers, researchers and employees for prevention ownership.
• Advise on and contribute to budget planning and resource allocation for health and safety initiatives.
• Drive awareness and engagement to build a strong prevention culture.
