Job summary

Smile, the European leader in open-source integration, is hiring a Cybersecurity Expert (Freelance) in Brussels. You will assess security postures across infrastructures, design secure architectures, and lead incident response with SOC teams. Hybrid model 2-3 days remote per week.

Strong knowledge of cloud security (Azure, AWS, GCP), IAM, and security tooling, plus certifications, will help you thrive in a fast-growing, collaborative environment. Fluent English required; French or Dutch a plus.

Qualifications

• Proven cybersecurity experience in security engineering, architecture or operations.
• Strong knowledge of network and system security, IAM and cloud security.
• Hands-on with security tools (Microsoft Sentinel, Defender, Splunk, CrowdStrike, Nessus/Qualys).
• Familiarity with ISO 27001, NIST, NIS2, CIS compliance standards.
• Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, OSCP, or AZ-500 are a strong asset.
• Fluent in English; knowledge of French or Dutch is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assessing the security posture of infrastructures, applications, and cloud environments, and recommending remediation plans.
• Designing and implementing security architectures and controls (IAM, network segmentation, encryption, Zero Trust).
• Monitoring, detecting, and responding to security incidents in collaboration with SOC teams (SIEM, EDR/XDR).
• Managing vulnerabilities: scanning, prioritization, and follow-up of corrective actions.
• Contributing to compliance with standards and regulations (ISO 27001, NIS2, GDPR, DORA where applicable).
• Integrating security into development and DevOps processes (DevSecOps, secure code reviews, pipeline security).
• Writing security policies and procedures, and raising awareness among teams.
• (For Senior profiles) Acting as a trusted advisor to clients, steering security roadmaps, and mentoring team members.
