Job summary

Jensen Hughes seeks a Facade / External Wall Engineer to join our engineering team in Belgium. You will gain structured exposure to façade systems through site visits and analysis of external wall fire performance, developing core skills across thermal and fire performance disciplines.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree (achieved or expected) in Façade Engineering, Civil or Structural Engineering, Architecture, Building Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English & Dutch.
• Willingness to travel to the UK for site visits.

Responsibilities

• Support the review of architectural drawings, specifications, and technical information relating to façade and external wall systems.
• Demonstrate understanding of common construction methods and materials, and translate findings into risk-based assessments.
• Assist in the preparation of technical reports, including external wall fire assessment reports, façade engineering notes, and supporting appendices.
• Assist external wall fire safety assessments, including UK PAS 9980-led appraisals and desktop studies.
• Assist with thermal engineering tasks, including thermal bridging reviews, U-value assessments, condensation risk inputs, and modelling outputs.
• Support coordination between internal disciplines and external stakeholders.
• Attend site visits, design meetings, and client meetings as required.
• Maintain project documentation in accordance with internal procedures.

Role Purpose

The Facade / External Wall Engineer supports the delivery of façade engineering and external wall fire consultancy services under the supervision of senior engineers. The role provides structured exposure to façade systems through site visits and/ or related documentation, following an analysis of external wall fire performance where potential risks are identified. There is an emphasis on developing core engineering skills across thermal, and fire performance disciplines.
You will contribute to technical delivery while developing the judgement, competence, and professional behaviours required to progress within either the façade design or external wall systems consultancy pathways.

Responsibilities

• Support the review of architectural drawings, specifications, and technical information relating to façade and external wall systems.
• Demonstrate a good understanding of common construction methods and materials, and translate findings into risk‑based assessments.
• Assist in the preparation of technical reports, including external wall fire assessment reports, façade engineering notes, and supporting appendices.
• Support external wall fire safety assessments, including UK PAS 9980–led appraisals and related desktop studies.
• Assist with thermal engineering tasks, including thermal bridging reviews, U-value assessments, condensation risk inputs, and interpretation of modelling outputs under supervision.
• Support the coordination and review of test evidence, certifications, and product data relevant to façade and external wall performance.
• Assist senior engineers with coordination between internal disciplines and external stakeholders.
• Attend site visits, design meetings, and client meetings as required.
• Maintain accurate records, site notes, and project documentation in accordance with internal procedures.
• Actively participate in training, mentoring, and professional development activities.
• Work in accordance with Jensen Hughes quality, safety, and governance procedures at all times.

Requirements And Qualifications

• Master’s degree (achieved or expected) in Façade Engineering, Civil or Structural Engineering, Architecture, Building Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
• Basic understanding of building design and construction principles.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English & Dutch.
• Willingness to learn and develop technical capability within a consultancy environment.
• Have the ability to travel to the UK for site visits without restriction.

Additional qualifications or experience that could help you succeed even further include:

• Previous site experience is advantageous.
• Interest in façade engineering, external walls systems, and fire safety.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications.
• Interest in thermal and/or structural aspects of façade performance.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Collaborative approach and willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Additional language skills are advantageous but not essential.
