The role

Founded in 2016, Hanbury continues to focus on delivering client excellence and growing our business. We are looking to bring on board a driven Associate Director to help service existing public affairs accounts, with opportunities to help support our ongoing growth.

The successful candidate will have a passion for politics and a shrewd understanding of the EU political and regulatory landscape, committed to delivering excellence in a fast-paced consulting environment.

You will be a key member of a team that provides cutting-edge regulatory & political analysis and engagement advice to some of the most exciting global companies. You will have experience working for the EU institutions, a think tank, in-house, in a relevant trade association, or in consultancy.

Responsibilities

Client Management

  • Experienced client handling. You will manage overall client relationships on a portfolio of client accounts, demonstrating strong lateral thinking and problem resolution skills.
  • Provide strategic regulatory and political analysis, engagement advice and manage the delivery to daily products and services to clients.
  • Consistent focus on adding value to clients and recognises opportunities to extend relationships.

Business Development

  • You will play a significant role in business development, including leading the development of well-structured and creative new business proposals.
  • Active in cross and upselling to existing clients and driving new commercial opportunities.
  • Strong presentation skills and influencing skills.
  • Strong and developing network, building relationships with potential new business leads.

Leadership & Development

  • You will be responsible for approving work created by more junior colleagues, providing coaching and effective feedback.
  • You will manage junior colleagues on accounts, and have experience in delegation, motivation, supervision and development of others.

Culture

  • Associate Directors support the development of a positive Hanbury culture and act as an advocate and ambassador for Hanbury both internally and externally.
The ideal candidate profile
  • Has a shrewd understanding of the EU political and regulatory landscape.
  • Can confidently advise clients on details of public policy as well as navigate engagement across the EU institutions.
  • You will have good (at least 3-6 years) experience working for the EU institutions, a think tank, in-house, in a relevant trade association, or in consultancy.
  • You are dedicated to producing high quality work and going the extra mile in a fast paced environment.
  • Has some experience as a people manager and leader.
  • Has excellent interpersonal skills to encourage respectful debate and is not afraid to take risks.
  • Has first class verbal and written communications skills in English and at least one other European language.
  • Wants to be part of a dynamic team and drive a positive working environment.
  • Enjoys working with people with a diverse range of backgrounds and opinions.
  • 26 days’ paid leave plus bank holidays and time off over Christmas.
  • Normal working hours are 9am – 6pm.
  • Operate a hybrid working policy – up to 4 weeks per year.
  • 4% group assurance (pension) employer contribution.
  • Eligible for the company’s 2026 CCT90 bonus scheme.
  • Monizze Lunch Vouchers, Eco Vouchers and a monthly travel allowance.
  • Health insurance policy.
  • Work From Abroad policy for up to 4 weeks a year.
  • You will be based in Brussels, but asked to travel as necessary to London or other parts of Europe.
