Job summary

Arcadis Belgium is seeking a BESS Engineer to strengthen our Energy & Power capabilities. You will support the development and delivery of Battery Energy Storage System projects and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors, OEMs, and grid stakeholders to ensure safe, compliant and high-quality project delivery.

The role requires knowledge of MV/HV design, BMS/EMS/SCADA, and grid connection studies, with a focus on integration with energy infrastructure and grid operability.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Power Systems or related.
• Professional experience in BESS, renewable energy, power systems, electrical infrastructure or grid-connected energy projects.
• Knowledge of Battery Energy Storage Systems and main technical interfaces.
• Understanding MV/HV electrical systems and grid connection design principles.

Responsibilities

• Support the technical development and delivery of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.
• Review technical specifications, design docs, calculations and supplier submissions.
• Contribute to the integration of BMS, EMS, PCS, SCADA and control/communication systems.
• Coordinate interfaces between BESS integrators/OEMs, electrical systems and grid connections.
• Assist project teams during construction, testing, energisation and commissioning.

With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world’s most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.Role description:As the energy transition accelerates, Battery Energy Storage Systems are playing an increasingly important role in supporting grid flexibility, renewable energy integration and security of supply.We are looking for a BESS Engineer to strengthen our Energy & Power capabilities in Belgium and contribute to the development and delivery of battery energy storage projects.You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and engage with clients, contractors, technology providers, OEMs and grid stakeholders.What you will doDepending on your experience and the project phase, your responsibilities may include:Support the technical development and delivery of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.Review technical specifications, design documentation, single-line diagrams, calculations and supplier submissions.Contribute to the definition and review of BESS technical and performance requirements.Support the integration of battery systems with HV/MV electrical infrastructure and grid connections.Review and coordinate interfaces between BESS integrators/OEMs, electrical systems, transformers, civil works and other project disciplines.Contribute to the integration of BMS, EMS, PCS, SCADA and control/communication systems.Support electrical and power-system studies where relevant, including load flow, protection, short-circuit and grid-compliance considerations.Participate in technical evaluations of suppliers, OEMs and contractors.Support multidisciplinary design reviews and identify technical gaps, risks and interface issues.Assist project teams during construction, installation, testing, energisation and commissioning.Support FAT/SAT activities, technical acceptance and project handover where applicable.Work closely with project managers, electrical engineers and other technical specialists to ensure safe, compliant and high-quality project delivery.What you bringWe are interested in both experienced BESS specialists and electrical/power engineers who have developed relevant experience in energy storage.Ideally, you have:A degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Power Systems or a related engineering discipline.Professional experience in BESS, renewable energy, power systems, electrical infrastructure or grid-connected energy projects.Knowledge or practical exposure to Battery Energy Storage Systems and their main technical interfaces.Understanding of MV/HV electrical systems, grid connection and electrical design principles.Familiarity with some of the following: BMS, EMS, PCS, SCADA, transformers, switchgear, protection systems and grid connection studies.Experience reviewing technical documentation, drawings, specifications or engineering calculations.An understanding of project delivery across design, procurement, construction and/or commissioning stages.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.The ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and international project teams.Good communication skills in English and Dutch and/or French would.Why Arcadis?We can only achieve our goals when everyone is empowered to be their best.
