Imec in Leuven, Belgium, seeks a Development Engineer for the Platform Team to design, implement, and maintain platform databases, ensuring traceability and stability across modules and baselines.

You will own modules, document thoroughly, and collaborate with Process Integration/Development to validate wafer technologies, analyze changes, and support deployment. The role is based in Leuven with substantial on-site work and hybrid options after training.

Development Engineer- Platform Team

What you will do

• Platform database management: Set up, maintain, and continuously improve structured databases for platformized process flows, modules, baselines, and inline Statistical Process Control (SPC), ensuring traceability, clarity, consistency, and process stability.
• Module ownership and documentation: Act as the key contact for modules managed by the team. Ensure module documentation is complete, well organized, and up to date so it can be used effectively across the company.
• Silicon wafer validation: Set up, execute, and monitor silicon wafer experiments in collaboration with Process Integration and Process Development Engineers to validate new technologies, process changes, and module performance.
• Change review and impact analysis: Work closely with fab and engineering teams to evaluate tool and process changes, analyze their impact, support decision-making through structured qualification activities, and maintain approved changes in the relevant platform documentation and databases.
• Metrology, characterization, and reporting: Coordinate metrology and characterization activities, track measurements, analyze results, and provide clear technical feedback to researchers and engineers.
• Operational support and troubleshooting: As time permits, support day-to-day Process Integration activities, troubleshoot process, integration, and operational issues, and provide support to enable smooth project execution.

Who you are

• You hold a Master’s degree in Engineering (e.g., Industrial Sciences, Physics, Materials Science, Electronics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Electromechanics) or have acquired equivalent expertise through relevant professional experience.
• Prefer 1–3 years of industry experience in semiconductor processing, device development, process integration, or a related high-tech manufacturing environment.
• You are highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple activities simultaneously while adapting effectively to changing priorities.
• You are proactive, hands‑on, and solution‑oriented, with a strong sense of ownership and a drive to deliver high‑quality results.
• You enjoy working with data, identifying trends and root causes, drawing meaningful conclusions, and recommending appropriate follow‑up actions. Experience with data analysis tools such as JMP or similar platforms is an asset.
• You are a collaborative and effective communicator who listens actively, builds constructive relationships, and conveys ideas clearly to a variety of stakeholders. You are able to influence others while maintaining a positive and professional approach.
• You are fluent in English, both written and spoken, and comfortable working in an international and multidisciplinary environment.
• This position is based in Leuven, Belgium. You are either already based in Belgium or willing to relocate. Imec will provide relocation support for international candidates.

Work environment

• Enjoy a collaborative and hands‑on work environment, with approximately 70% on‑site presence in our advanced R&D facilities. Hybrid work options can be discussed after the initial training period.
• As the organization continues to grow, this role may evolve from a standard weekday schedule to a day‑shift rotation, including one weekend out of two. Any weekend work will be fully compensated through additional pay and time‑off benefits.
