Vivid Resourcing is seeking a Design Engineer to join a skilled product development team, focusing on the mechanical design of consumer products from concept through to production. You will develop components, housings and mechanisms, creating 3D models and technical drawings, prototypes and tests.

The role requires hands-on problem solving and knowledge of manufacturing methods such as injection moulding, CNC machining and sheet metal.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or related discipline.
• Experience with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, Fusion 360).
• Experience designing mechanical products, components or assemblies.
• Understanding of materials and manufacturing techniques such as injection moulding, CNC machining, sheet metal, extrusion.

We are looking for a Design Engineer to join a highly skilled product development team, with a strong focus on the mechanical design and development of consumer products. You will be involved throughout the product development process, from initial concepts and prototypes through to testing, optimisation and final production.

This is a hands‑on engineering role suited to someone who enjoys turning ideas into practical, manufacturable products. You will work on the mechanical design of components, assemblies, housings and mechanisms, considering factors such as functionality, durability, aesthetics, cost and ease of manufacture.

You will work closely with other engineers, product developers, suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure designs meet both technical and commercial requirements. The role will involve creating and developing 3D models and technical drawings, producing prototypes, testing designs and making improvements based on results and feedback.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies and consumer products.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies and technical drawings.

• Select appropriate materials, components and manufacturing processes.

• Identify design issues and implement improvements and optimisations.
• Work with suppliers and manufacturers to develop and refine products.
• Support the transition of products from development into production.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, production and product development teams where required.
• Contribute to design reviews, documentation and technical specifications.
• Help ensure products meet relevant quality, safety and performance requirements.

About You

• Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Industrial Design Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, Fusion 360 or similar.
• Experience designing mechanical products, components or assemblies.
• Good understanding of materials and manufacturing techniques such as injection moulding, CNC machining, sheet metal, extrusion or similar.
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, tolerancing and design for manufacture.
• A practical, hands‑on approach to product development and problem solving.
• Comfortable working with prototypes and testing designs in a practical environment.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Experience in consumer products, product development or high-volume manufacturing would be advantageous.
