Job summary

Mackinnon Bruce International partners with a leading manufacturer of advanced scientific instrumentation, seeking an Engineer / Senior Engineer to join its Ghent engineering team. You will contribute across hardware and software development, prototype through to product launch, and work in a multidisciplinary setting.

The role emphasizes hands-on engineering, collaboration with mechanical and software teams, and continuous improvement in instrument performance.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Engineering or a closely related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a hands-on approach.
• Experience or demonstrable interest in programming and software development.
• Knowledge of LabVIEW is advantageous but not essential.
• Familiarity with mechanical design software such as SolidWorks or Onshape would be beneficial.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Excellent organisational, documentation and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a small, collaborative and multidisciplinary engineering team.
• Fluency in both Dutch and English is essential.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development of innovative scientific instruments from concept to launch.
• Collaborate with mechanical design engineers to develop and test hardware components.
• Develop and implement software tools to support hardware testing and calibration.
• Conduct system-level testing, troubleshooting and investigations.
• Support transfer of new products into production with manufacturing teams.
• Participate in multidisciplinary development projects across hardware, software and science.
• Support definition of system requirements and drive improvements in performance and reliability.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation and report progress in team meetings.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development of innovative scientific instruments, supporting projects from initial concept and prototyping through to final product launch.
• Collaborate closely with mechanical design engineers to develop, prototype, test and optimise new hardware and instrument components.
• Develop and implement software tools to support hardware testing, calibration and system performance.
• Conduct system-level testing, troubleshooting and technical investigations to identify and resolve engineering challenges.
• Work alongside manufacturing engineering teams to support the successful transfer of new products into production.
• Participate in multidisciplinary development projects, collaborating across hardware, software, scientific and engineering functions.
• Support the definition of system requirements and contribute to continuous improvements in product performance and reliability.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation and communicate project progress through regular team meetings.

Candidate Requirements

• Master's degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a hands-on approach to engineering challenges.
