About The Job
We are looking for an experienced Database Engineer to join our team in delivering and supporting mission‑critical data solutions for a leading European institution. In this role, you will be responsible for the development, maintenance, and optimization of robust database architectures and enterprise reporting systems.
Location: Geel, Belgium (Hybrid: 1 day per week on‑site)
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain complex relational database structures and queries.
Write, test, and optimize high-performance PL/SQL code, stored procedures, packages, triggers, and functions.
Design, build, maintain, and tune operational and analytical reports using JasperReports.
Ensure data integrity, high availability, security, and performance across database environments.
Perform query optimization, database tuning, and performance troubleshooting.
Participate in data migration, ETL processes, and database integration activities.
Analyse and understand business and functional reporting requirements.
Produce and maintain clear technical documentation and database artefacts.
Collaborate closely with application architects, software developers, analysts, and project managers.
Ensure compliance with institutional data governance, security standards, and best practices.
Provide technical support and root‑cause analysis for database‑related incidents.
Contribute effectively within an international, multicultural, and collaborative team environment.
Profile Requirements
Minimum 5 years of proven, hands‑on experience in PL/SQL development and database engineering.
Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience designing and developing reports with JasperReports.
EU Nationality / Valid work authorization in Belgium (no visa sponsorship required).
Strong expertise in relational database concepts, data modelling, and SQL performance tuning.
Proven ability to analyse complex data structures and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Professional proficiency in English (both written and spoken).
High degree of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Desired Assets
Experience working in environments supporting European Institutions, agencies, or large international public bodies.
Experience with Oracle Database administration, maintenance, and performance monitoring tools.
Knowledge of ETL tools, data warehousing principles, and automated data processing workflows.
Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD database deployment practices.
Relevant database or reporting certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional).
