WLG is seeking a database platform engineer for on-site work in Belgium to keep SQL Server-based systems available, fast and recoverable as we migrate to the cloud.

You will install, configure, back up, design HA/DR, monitor, automate, and support migrations while working with app, infra and cloud teams to ensure performance and scale.

Qualifications

• Expert-level SQL Server administration, tuning and troubleshooting.
• Experience with availability groups, failover clustering, replication and recovery.
• Cloud database work, preferably on Azure.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, MongoDB.
• Automation in PowerShell, T-SQL or Python.
• Fundamentals: relational design, indexing, query optimization and capacity planning.

This is a database platform role rather than a query-tuning one. The estate is mixed — SQL Server at its centre, Azure alongside it, and open-source engines around the edges — and the job is to keep all of it available, fast and recoverable while it moves steadily towards the cloud.

It suits a database engineer who automates what they do twice, who takes high availability and disaster recovery seriously enough to test them, and who writes the runbook before it is needed.

What You Would Be Doing

• Install, configure, upgrade, patch and back up database systems on premises and in the cloud.
• Design and support high availability and disaster recovery — availability groups, failover clustering, replication and a backup strategy that has actually been restored.

What you would bring

• Cloud database work, preferably on Azure — managed instance, database services, virtual machines.
• Working knowledge of PostgreSQL and MySQL or MariaDB, and ideally MongoDB.
• Automation in PowerShell, T-SQL or Python, and comfort with infrastructure as code and deployment pipelines.
• Sound fundamentals: relational design, indexing, query optimisation and capacity planning.

The work is full time on site in Braine-l'Alleud, in normal office conditions.
