Job summary

Painting with Light is seeking an Experiential Lighting Designer to craft immersive lighting experiences for global projects. You will work with creative directors, designers, architects and engineers to shape environments where light is integral to the visitor journey.

You will develop lighting concepts, translate ideas into buildable solutions, and create visualisations and technical drawings. Travel may be required for international projects.

We're looking for an Experiential Lighting Designer who combines creativity, technical expertise and a passion for storytelling to help create unique experiences that inspire, engage and amaze.

A background in themed entertainment, immersive experiences, attraction design, museums, events or live entertainment is considered a strong advantage.

Your Role

As an Experiential Lighting Designer, you will be involved throughout the entire project lifecycle, from concept development through implementation and commissioning.

Working closely with creative directors, show designers, multimedia specialists, architects and engineers, you'll help shape immersive environments where light becomes an integral part of the visitor experience.

What You'll Do

Develop creative lighting concepts that support storytelling and visitor engagement.

Translate creative visions into technically feasible and buildable lighting solutions.

Create visual presentations, renderings and design documentation.

Develop lighting layouts, specifications, calculations and technical drawings.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams throughout the design process.

Support implementation, commissioning and on-site fine-tuning.

Explore emerging technologies and innovative design approaches.

Technical Skills

Strong understanding of lighting design principles and workflows.

Experience creating lighting specifications, calculations and technical documentation.

Understanding of lighting controls and integrated show systems.

CAD & Technical Documentation

Proficiency in Vectorworks and AutoCAD.

Experience with SketchUp, Blender and/or 3ds Max.

Experience creating visualisations using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop & InDesign).

Experience with visualization tools such as Depence².

Experience with lighting calculation software such as DIALux.

BIM & Coordination

Familiarity with Revit and BIM workflows.

Productivity & Innovation

Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365.

Interest in AI-powered tools for design development, visualization and workflow optimization.

Nice to Have

Experience in theme parks, museums, immersive attractions or entertainment projects.

Knowledge of DMX, show control and media integration.

Experience working with multimedia, video or projection systems.

Experience with interactive, dynamic or synchronized lighting installations.

Experience supporting on-site commissioning and programming.
