Smulders in Arendonk, Belgium, seeks a Commercial Cost Estimator (Quantity Surveyor) to monitor the financial impact of changes in large offshore wind and steel construction projects. You’ll review tender and contract documents and provide cost analyses to keep projects within budget.

Collaborating with the project team, you’ll defend estimates with clients and help steer commercial outcomes through accurate, timely cost calculations and a strong commercial mindset.

As a Commercial Cost Estimator, internally knows as a Quantity Surveyor,within our Project Team, you monitor the financial impact of changes throughout the execution phase of large-scale offshore wind and steel construction projects. You assess project variations against the original contract scope, calculate change orders and support project management with accurate cost analyses. Thanks to your commercial mindset and analytical skills, every project modification is properly valued and managed.

• You review the Tender documentation to understand how the contract price is structured.
• You review contract documentation related to your scope.
• You assess any design changes made after contract signing (drawings, lists, specifications) and determine their commercial impact.
• You prepare cost calculations.
• You work closely with the project team (project manager, contract manager, planner) to strategize and achieve positive project outcomes.
• You defend your cost estimates for additional work with the client.

Your magic skills

• You strive for the most commercially optimal outcome within the contract framework.
• You have a keen interest in technical aspects, particularly construction technology in steel construction. An engineering degree is not required.
• You have a good command of English.
• You possess a solid foundation in Excel.
• You have a critical analytical eye and a healthy dose of common sense.
