Job summary

Lighthouse is seeking a Backend Engineer in Ghent, Belgium, to design and build high-performance data acquisition systems, primarily in Rust, to collect billions of data points for our hospitality AI platform.

You will join the Crawler Engineering team, owning the reliability, scalability, and security of crawling infrastructure, and collaborate with DevOps, Security, and fellow engineers to ship robust, maintainable code.

Qualifications

• Production backend experiences in cloud environments.
• Strong knowledge of Rust or C/C++, with willingness to dive into Rust.
• Solid grasp of HTTP, TCP/IP, TLS, and proxies.
• R&D mindset; comfortable with ambiguity and experimentation.
• Strong analytical and debugging skills; comfortable with code reading.
• Clear communication and teamwork; fluent in English.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and improve backend data acquisition systems.
• Develop in-house proxy layer and browser tooling.
• Investigate crawler problems and implement robust solutions.
• Create clear interfaces and guardrails for AI agents.
• Ensure code quality with tests, observability, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with DevOps and Security to ship scalable solutions.
