Bridge351 is seeking a Back-End Software Engineer to build robust server-side applications in Brussels, Belgium. Hybrid work arrangement combines on-site collaboration at Brussels offices with remote work.

You will design, implement, and optimize backend services, APIs, and data storage, while ensuring security and performance. English proficiency and EU-friendly environment are required.

We are hiring a Back-End Software Engineer for the EU Institution in Brussels, Belgium:

Nature of the tasks

• Development of back-end website applications.
• Integration of user-facing elements developed by a front-end developers with server-side logic.
• Implement core business logic.
• Design and implementation of data storage solutions.
• Apply data and security best practices: input validation, authentication/authorization, secure storage, compliant logging and monitoring.
• Optimization of the application for maximum speed and scalability.
• Design and develop APIs.
• Participating in the design and creation of scalable software.
• Maintenance of code integrity and organisation.
• Writing clean, functional code on the back-end.
• Compile and analyse data, processes, and codes to troubleshoot problems and identify areas for improvement, including setting up and querying monitoring tools.
• Perform unit/integration testing, debug, fix, and validate code changes.
• Deliver solutions that fulfil functional and non-functional requirements and align with user expectations.
• Write technical documentation.
• Basic configuration of cloud services for back-end functionality (ex: serverless functions, storage accounts, managed Kubernetes).
• Develop and maintain services and business logic using one or more back-end programming languages.
• Implement authentication and authorization mechanisms to secure API endpoints and services.
• Write and maintain unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and reliability, integrating them into the CI/CD pipeline.

Specific expertise and technologies

• Proficiency in back-end languages (Java, PHP) and experience with frameworks (Spring Boot, Hibernate, Node.js).
• Strong understanding of the web development cycle and programming techniques and tools.
• Experience with APM tools (Dynatrace, Splunk, Elastic APM) and knowledge of OpenTelemetry for metrics, logs, and traces.
• Proficiency in working with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL), including writing complex SQL queries and understanding database design.
• Knowledge of NoSQL document stores (MongoDB, CouchDB, CosmosDB) and understanding of consistency/performance trade-offs.
• Experience with Git workflows (GitFlow, trunk-based) and understanding of legacy systems using SVN.
• Experience in designing, building, and securing RESTful APIs and web services, including OpenAPI/Swagger documentation.
• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) for developing and deploying applications.
• Understanding of authentication and authorization protocols and standards (e.g., OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT).

Certification and/or Standards

Optional: One of the following or an equivalent certification:

AWS Certified Developer Associate,

Microsoft Azure Developer Associate,

CNCF Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD).
