Job summary

Aurec is seeking a Senior Cloud Security Specialist (Zscaler SME) to support a Federal Government department through a Zero Trust transformation. This fully remote role across Australia is a 12-month contract with extension options.

You will mature, automate, and optimise the Zscaler environment while mentoring internal teams to ensure long-term operational excellence. Applicants must hold an active Australian Government Baseline Security Clearance.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Cloud Security Specialist (Zscaler Subject Matter Expert) to support a major Federal Government department undergoing a high-profile Zero Trust transformation

You will play a key role in maturing, automating, and optimising an enterprise Zscaler environment while mentoring internal technical teams to ensure sustainable, long-term operational excellence

Key Responsibilities

• Architecture & Optimisation: Review existing Zero Trust architecture and validate Zscaler configuration, resilience, recovery, and security controls

• Observability & Monitoring: Implement and optimise Zscaler Cloud Connector monitoring, alerting frameworks, and operational dashboards

• Automation & IaC: Drive the adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Policy as Code practices to reduce manual intervention and streamline change management

• Technical Leadership: Provide high-level guidance across Zscaler integration with multi-cloud (AWS/Azure), enterprise networks, and SIEM/security operations

• Capability Uplift & Knowledge Transfer: Upskill internal APS teams through structured mentoring, technical documentation, operational runbooks, and shadowing

Skills & Experience Required

Essential:

• Zscaler Expertise: Proven hands-on track record designing, deploying, and optimising enterprise-grade Zscaler environments, including Cloud Connector and Zero Trust architecture

• IaC & Automation: Demonstrated experience implementing Infrastructure as Code and Policy as Code for secure cloud/networking platforms

• Observability: Strong background in enhancing monitoring, alerting, troubleshooting, and incident response for Zscaler platforms

• Documentation & Mentoring: Exceptional communication skills with a proven passion for mentoring technical teams, authoring standard operating procedures (SOPs)/runbooks, and delivering capability uplift

• Eligibility: Must hold an active Australian Government Baseline Security Clearance (or higher)

Desirable:

• Relevant Zscaler certifications (e.g., ZIA, ZPA, ZCA)

• Prior experience delivering security or Zero Trust solutions within Australian Federal Government environments

• Proven experience integrating Zscaler with enterprise cloud providers (AWS, Azure) and SIEM platforms

• Experience designing structured transition and exit plans to build internal client self-sufficiency
