Job summary

Deception Bay Neighbourhood Centre in Deception Bay QLD is seeking a casual Youth Worker to support delivery of STEP UP, a 12-week early intervention program for children aged 8–12. You will help run sessions that build emotional regulation, peer connections, and positive decision-making in a school setting.

The role emphasizes play, creativity, trauma-informed practice, and collaboration with families, schools and community partners.

Qualifications

• Must have completed a qualification in Youth Work, Community Services, Social Work, or similar.
• Some experience (paid, placement, or volunteer) working with children aged 8–12.
• Group work facilitation experience.
• Flexible, confident, reflective and values empathy, patience, inclusion, and teamwork.
• Interested in early intervention and social-emotional learning.

Responsibilities

• Support and co-facilitate group sessions using games, movement, creative activities, and reflection
• Build safe, respectful relationships with children in a trauma-informed, strengths-based way
• Assist with individual check-ins and basic case management tasks - including case notes.
• Learn to collaborate with families, schools, and community partners
• Support other youth programs at the Neighbourhood Centre as needed

New Youth Program | Deception Bay Neighbourhood Centre

Are you to looking to grow your skills in a supportive, community-focused environment?

We are seeking a casual Youth Worker to join our team and support delivery of a new Innovative 12-week program (STEP UP), an early intervention pilot program for children aged 8–12 in Deception Bay. This program focuses on emotional regulation, compassion and self-compassion, accountability, positive decision-making, teamwork and building strong peer connections within a school setting.

This role is ideal for someone who is warm, curious, open-minded, and willing to learn, and who enjoys working with children through play, creativity, and relationship-based practice. As a pilot program, the program will continue to evolve — making this a great opportunity to build experience, confidence, and professional capability.

In this role, you will:
