Job summary

Inclusive Support Service in Kallangur is seeking dedicated Youth Workers to join our team to support young people with complex behaviours and support needs in a trauma-informed, relationship-centered way.

You will help the young person feel safe, understood and empowered while developing life skills, emotional regulation and positive relationships, and you will collaborate with families, schools and community services to maintain continuity of care.

Qualifications

• Requires empathy, patience and strong communication.
• Experience or training in trauma-informed approaches preferred.
• Certificate 4 or higher in a relevant field is required or advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualised support and supervision.
• Support emotional regulation and positive behaviours.
• Implement behaviour support strategies and care plans.
• Use trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches in interactions.
• Build trusting relationships with the young person.
• Support community access, activities and daily routines.

About the Role

We are looking for someone who is confident supporting young people with complex behaviours and support needs and who can build positive, trusting relationships.

You will be supporting a young person to feel safe, understood and empowered while helping them develop life skills, emotional regulation and positive relationships.

Your role may include:

• Providing individualised support and supervision
• Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
• Implementing behaviour support strategies and individual care plans
• Using therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches in your day-to-day interactions
• Building a strong, trusting relationship with the young person
• Supporting community access, activities and daily routines
• Encouraging independence and developing life skills
• Maintaining professional boundaries and a safe environment
• Working collaboratively with the wider support team
• Completing accurate progress notes and required documentation

We're looking for someone who is:

• Passionate about working with young people
• Has a Certificate 4 or higher in a relevant field.
• Patient, calm and compassionate
• Confident supporting behaviours of concern
• Experienced in or knowledgeable about behaviour support
• Familiar with trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches
• Able to remain calm and consistent during challenging situations
• A great communicator who can build positive relationships
• Reliable and committed to providing consistent support
• Comfortable working independently while also being part of a team

Experience working with young people who have complex behavioural or emotional needs is highly desirable.

Experience or training in areas such as:

• Trauma-informed practice
• Therapeutic care
• Positive Behaviour Support
• Youth work, disability support, residential care or community services
