Job summary

Youth Justice and Victim Support in Cleveland, QLD is seeking a Cook to assist the Kitchen Supervisor and lead kitchen staff in delivering nutritious meals for young people in care and staff. The role includes hot and cold dish preparation, stock control, and supporting reintegration activities.

You will ensure hygienic kitchen operations, adhere to safety standards, and contribute to a positive, inclusive kitchen culture while supporting daily service and event catering as required.

Qualifications

• Cookery experience in a commercial kitchen.
• Knowledge of safe food handling principles.
• Certificate II in Hospitality (Kitchen Operations).

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Prepare and provide nutritious and varied meals to clients and staff.
• Contribute to an environment that reflects normalised living and working situations for young people.
• Adherence to the security and safety by observance of operational procedures and standards as they impact on kitchen processes and procedure.
• Maintain a hygienic, safe and secure working environment, including cleanliness of work areas and kitchen equipment.
• Prepare requisition orders and assist in the purchase of kitchen and food related stores and provisions and maintain an effective system of stock control, eg recording and stocktakes.
• Supervise kitchenhands and participate in the day-to-day operations of the kitchen.
• Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of the equipment used within a small commercial kitchen environment.
