Job summary

Yaandina Community Services seeks a Youth Support Worker for our Roebourne Youth Centre on a permanent part-time basis. You will deliver trauma-informed support, run life-skills programs, and ensure a welcoming, inclusive environment for local youth.

You will work with families and other service providers to create wraparound support, building resilience and confidence in young people. A hands-on role with real community impact.

Qualifications

  • Current Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance are required.
  • Senior First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) is required.
  • Mental Health First Aid - Youth qualification is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for engaging with families from diverse backgrounds.

Job description

Yaandina Community Services is looking for a Youth Support Worker to join our Roebourne Youth Centre on a permanent part time basis. We run centre-based after-school activities and holiday programs designed to support young people by helping them build resilience and manage their lives with confidence. You'll work with a holistic approach, partnering with families and other service providers to create wraparound support in a welcoming, inclusive environment. This is a hands-on role where you'll make a real difference in the lives of local young people.

Duties include but not limited to.
  • Build trust and deliver trauma-informed support to young people facing adversity, with a focus on their active participation in decision‑making
  • Create and run low-barrier recreational and life skills programs tailored to diverse and disengaged youth in your community
  • Supervise the youth centre, respond calmly to incidents, and work collaboratively with local community groups and service providers
Role Requirements
  • Current Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance
  • Valid driver's licence and Senior First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Mental Health First Aid - Youth qualification
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build trust with young people and families from diverse backgrounds
  • Competency in recognising early signs of distress and de-escalating volatile situations using trauma-informed approaches
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certificate in Youth Work (CH404221) or a related qualification
  • Demonstrated understanding of socio-economic challenges and community dynamics affecting local young people
  • Experience working with young people in community or youth service settings, with a track record of creating inclusive, low-barrier programs
Salary and benefits:
  • Hourly rate is based off the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award (SCHADS) pending qualifications and experience.
