Job summary

Bartons Motor Group is seeking a reliable Yard Person / General Hand for a part-time role at our vehicle holding yard. This behind-the-scenes position involves moving, preparing and managing vehicles with no customer-facing duties.

You will drive a wide range of vehicles, manoeuvre in tight spaces, keep the yard tidy, and help with stock audits and basic administration. A current manual driver’s licence and a careful, hands-on approach are essential.

Qualifications

• Must have excellent driving skills and high confidence driving different vehicles.
• Current manual driver's licence is required.
• Excellent attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
• Willingness to get hands-on, be reliable and punctual.
• Good communication and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Move vehicles around the holding yard as directed.
• Transfer vehicles between Bartons locations and park/position accurately.
• Assist with vehicle cleaning, basic prep and presentation for next destination.
• Audit stock, locate vehicles and update records; keep the yard tidy and efficient.
• Support general yard duties and maintain a clean work area.

Bartons Motor Group is looking for a reliable and highly confident driver to join our team at our dedicated vehicle holding yard.

This is a behind-the-scenes role with no customer-facing responsibilities. You'll be responsible for moving, preparing and managing vehicles while helping keep our holding yard running smoothly and efficiently.

If you're someone who is comfortable driving a wide range of vehicles, confident manoeuvring in tight spaces and takes pride in looking after cars, this could be the role for you.

The Role

Working from our vehicle holding yard, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day movement, presentation and organisation of our vehicle stock.

Vehicle Movements

• Moving vehicles around the holding yard
• Transferring vehicles between Bartons locations
• Safely manoeuvring vehicles in tight spaces
• Parking and positioning vehicles accurately
• Assisting with vehicle transfers and deliveries
• Taking care of vehicles while they are in your care

Vehicle Preparation

• Washing and cleaning vehicles
• Pre-delivery preparation
• Basic accessory fitment
• Ensuring vehicles are clean, organised and ready for their next destination

Stock & Yard Management

• Stock auditing and inventory checks
• Locating and organising vehicles
• Updating vehicle records and completing basic administration
• Keeping the yard organised and operating efficiently

General Duties

• General yard and site maintenance
• Keeping work areas clean and tidy
• Assisting the team with a variety of hand-on tasks

What We're Looking For

This role is all about reliability, attention to detail and confidence behind the wheel.

You'll need:

• Excellent driving skills and a high level of confidence driving different vehicles
• Current manual driver's licence

Previous experience in automotive, vehicle yards, dealerships, logistics, detailing or vehicle movements will be highly regarded.

Confident Driving Is Essential

You don't need to be a professional race car driver - but you do need to be genuinely confident behind the wheel.

You'll regularly be moving and positioning vehicles, including manoeuvring in confined areas, so excellent vehicle control, awareness and confidence are essential.
