Job summary

Ritchie Brothers Auctioneers – Townsville QLD is seeking a Yard Coordinator to manage the flow of vehicles and assets on site. The role involves forklift operation, asset check-in via handheld device, vehicle detailing, decal removal and secure storage, all while upholding safety standards.

Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will liaise with internal teams, transport providers and external stakeholders to ensure efficient yard operations and accurate asset records.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in a similar operations role (auto, auction, logistics or salvage preferred).
• Forklift license or willingness to obtain.
• Mechanically minded with interest in automotive or equipment.
• Problem-solving abilities for logistical challenges.
• Customer-focused with good interpersonal skills.
• Safety-focused and alert to hazards around heavy equipment.
• Physically fit for yard tasks and outdoor work.
• Driver’s license required for site operations.

Responsibilities

• Check-in, appraise, photograph and store assets per company standards.
• Operate loaders and forklifts to move assets safely.
• Detail vehicles to enhance auction value; training provided.
• Recover keys, plates and other items from vehicles.
• Verify asset records and resolve discrepancies.
• Coordinate with transport providers for delivery/removal.
• Assist clients, assessors and transporters with queries.
• Maintain records and report yard performance to management.
• Work under pressure during peak periods while maintaining safety.

About the Role

As a Yard Coordinator, you will play a vital role in managing the flow of vehicles and assets within our site. This hands‑on role involves forklift operation, overseeing asset check‑in via a handheld device, photographing vehicles, car detailing, decal removal and storage of assets all while ensuring compliance and safety standards are met.

Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will work closely with internal teams, transport providers, and external stakeholders to ensure efficient site operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform vehicle check‑in, appraising, photographing and storage of assets, ensuring compliance with company standards.
• Operate loaders and forklifts to manage asset movement within the yard safely.
• Detail (thoroughly clean) vehicles to improve their appearance and enhance their value at auction, training provided
• Recover keys, license plates, and other information or objects from vehicles at the facility and store them in the appropriate locations at the branch
• Verify documentation and address any discrepancies in asset records.
• Coordinate with transport providers for the timely delivery and removal of assets.
• Assist clients, asessors and transporters with on‑site queries, ensuring a positive experience.
• Maintain accurate operational records and report yard performance updates to management.
• During catastrophe periods, high volumes of assets come into yard, and so the ability to work under pressure while still providing a quality service safely is essential.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience: Minimum 2+ years in a similar operational role (automotive, auction, logistics, or salvage industries preferred).
• Forklift License (or willingness to obtain).
• Mechanically Minded – An interest in automotive, mechanical repairs, experience in the equipment industry experience desirable.
• Problem‑Solving Ability – Experience handling logistical challenges and safety compliance.
• Customer‑Focused Approach – Comfortable interacting with customers, suppliers, and team members.
• Safety Focused– Must remain alert to potential hazards associated with heavy equipment and vehicles operating in the work area.
• Physical Fitness – Ability to perform yard‑related tasks, including lifting and moving assets and working primarily outdoors in all weather types.
• Driver’s Licence – Required for site operations.
