Job summary

Gateway Group is seeking a Workshop Supervisor for Heavy Mining Equipment in Western Australia. The role leads the mechanical HME team, driving safety, quality, productivity, and customer outcomes in a hands-on setting.

Reporting to the Workshop Manager, you will oversee day-to-day workshop activities, coordinate labour, and mentor tradespeople and apprentices while upholding WHS standards and company procedures.

Qualifications

  • Trade qualification as a Heavy Duty Mechanic, Diesel Fitter, Mechanical Fitter or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated supervisory or leading hand experience within mining, heavy equipment or heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong understanding of HME maintenance, repairs and rebuilds.
  • Ability to lead teams and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards.
  • Current driver's licence.

Workshop Supervisor - Heavy Mining Equipment (HME)

Gateway is a specialist Heavy Mining Equipment (HME) repair and rebuild business supporting mining operations across Western Australia. Due to continued growth and increasing workload, we are seeking an experienced Workshop Supervisor to lead our mechanical HME team while driving safety, quality, productivity, and customer outcomes.

This is a hands‑on leadership role suited to an experienced tradesperson who has progressed into supervision or an established supervisor looking for their next challenge.

About the Role

Reporting to the Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day execution of workshop activities across machine repairs and rebuild work.

You will coordinate labour, manage workflow, ensure quality standards are achieved, and maintain a strong safety culture within the workshop.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise mechanical and support personnel.

Coordinate daily and weekly workshop schedules.

Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.

Monitor productivity, quality, and job progress against planned schedules.

Conduct pre‑start meetings and toolbox talks.

Provide technical guidance and mentoring to tradespeople and apprentices.

Liaise with planner/ estimators, suppliers, and customers.

Ensure compliance with WHS requirements, procedures, and company standards.

Assist with labour allocation and resource planning.

Support continuous improvement initiatives within the workshop.

About You

Trade qualification as a Heavy Duty Mechanic, Diesel Fitter, Mechanical Fitter, or relevant trade.

Demonstrated supervisory or leading hand experience within mining, heavy equipment, or heavy industrial environments.

Strong understanding of HME maintenance, repairs, and rebuilds.

Ability to lead teams and manage competing priorities.

Strong communication and organisational skills.

Commitment to safety and quality standards.

Current driver's licence.

Highly Regarded

Experience supervising major component rebuilds and machine overhauls.

Knowledge of Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, Liebherr, or similar mining equipment.

Planning and scheduling experience.

Experience using ERP or maintenance management systems.

Frontline management or leadership qualifications.
