Job summary

Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia is seeking a Workshop Supervisor at our Somerton branch to lead the workshop team. You will plan, organise and supervise all workshop operations, mentoring technicians and apprentices to drive productivity and technical excellence across builds and service repairs.

You should have diesel or mobile plant mechanic trade qualifications and proven supervisory experience, with a strong focus on safety and WHS.

The Opportunity

Our Somerton branch is seeking an experienced and motivated Workshop Supervisor to lead our busy Workshop team. Reporting to the Service Manager, you will be responsible for planning, organising and supervising all workshop operations, while coaching and mentoring your team to drive productivity, technical excellence and attention to detail across both build and service repair functions.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Leading from the front by mentoring and developing technicians and apprentices, building strong technical capability and workmanship standards
  • Managing & planning daily workflows to optimise labour, and utilisation of equipment and resources
  • Promoting and enforcing a strong, proactive safety culture aligned with WHS standards
  • Maintaining strong attention to detail across all work, reducing rework and ensuring first-time fix success on both new builds and repairs
  • Ensuring accurate job documentation, service records, and compliance with warranty and OEM reporting requirements
  • Monitoring WIP, job costing, and workshop efficiency, identifying opportunities to improve productivity and service quality
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Relevant diesel or mobile plant mechanic trade qualifications
  • Proven supervisory experience with strong leadership capability
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety and a solid understanding of WHS principles
  • Experience in earthmoving equipment maintenance
  • Excellent time management with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to support and drive positive change
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on keeping all stakeholders informed
