Fuel Distributors of Western Australia is seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to lead the Kwinana Beach workshop and fleet maintenance. The role focuses on safety, reliability, compliance and financial management, reporting to the General Manager.

You will drive preventive maintenance, asset lifecycle decisions, budgeting and continuous improvement across a heavy-vehicle operation, partnering with Transport, HSE and finance to optimise performance.

Qualifications

  • Relevant trade qualification in heavy vehicle, automotive, mechanical or related discipline.
  • Proven management experience across fleet, workshop or maintenance operations.
  • Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance and asset lifecycle management.
  • Experience with budgets, P&L analysis, forecasting and cost control.
  • Ability to develop and implement workshop procedures and continuous improvement.
  • Sound understanding of WHS, regulatory requirements and dangerous goods.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee fleet reliability and ensure safe, compliant, available heavy vehicle fleet.
  • Manage workshop performance: preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections and breakdowns.
  • Lead safety, compliance and regulatory adherence across the operation.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and development for the workshop team.
  • Forecast expenditure, manage budgets and identify cost improvements.
  • Make informed asset lifecycle decisions on refurbishment, replacement and costs.
  • Implement workshop procedures and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Transport, Finance, HSE, suppliers and contractors.

Job description

Fuel Distributors of Western Australia (FDWA) is a leading bulk fuel and lubricant distributor, operating a modern fleet and servicing customers across metropolitan and regional WA.

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Workshop Manager to lead our workshop maintenance functions from our Kwinana Beach operation. This is a key leadership position reporting directly to the General Manager, with responsibility for the safety, reliability, compliance, performance and financial management of our workshop and fleet.

The successful person will take ownership of:

Fleet reliability – working with the Workshop and Transport teams to keep our heavy vehicle fleet safe, compliant and available.

Workshop performance – overseeing preventive maintenance, repairs, defects, inspections and breakdowns.

Safety & compliance – setting the standard and ensuring WHS, dangerous goods, heavy vehicle and regulatory requirements are met.

People leadership – leading, coaching and developing the workshop team.

Financial performance – managing budgets, forecasting expenditure and identifying opportunities to reduce whole-of-life maintenance costs.

Asset management – making informed decisions around fleet condition, refurbishment, replacement and lifecycle costs.

Continuous improvement – building better systems, procedures and ways of working.

Stakeholder management – working closely with Transport, Finance, HSE, suppliers and contractors.

Strategic advice – providing management with clear recommendations on fleet capability, maintenance risk and capital investment.

We are looking for a leader who combines strong technical knowledge, commercial awareness and proven people leadership. You will ideally have:

A relevant trade qualification in heavy vehicle, automotive, mechanical or a related discipline.

Proven management experience across fleet, workshop or maintenance operations, ideally within heavy vehicle and dangerous goods transport.

Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance, asset lifecycle management, defect control and workshop systems.

Demonstrated experience with budgets, P&L analysis, forecasting, cost control and delivering cost improvements.

Proven ability to develop and implement workshop procedures, management systems and continuous improvement initiatives.

Sound understanding of WHS, heavy vehicle, road transport and dangerous goods compliance requirements.

Strong capability with Microsoft Office and fleet maintenance systems.
