Job summary

Patterson Cheney Group's Mercedes-Benz Brighton workshop is seeking an experienced Workshop Controller to lead daily operations, allocate jobs to service technicians, and ensure smooth flow between service advisors and technicians.

You will manage a team of over 30, drive efficiency, uphold MB standards, and mentor apprentices. This permanent full-time role offers above-market pay, Monday–Friday hours, strong career progression, and access to exclusive Patterson Cheney discounts.

Qualifications

• Previous dealership experience as a Workshop Controller or Workshop Manager.
• Experience with Mercedes-Benz or European brands to drive workshop efficiencies.
• Strong organisational and leadership skills with ability to coach apprentices.
• Reliability, self-motivation and strong work ethic.
• Current Australian driver's license.

Job Description

About the Role:

• Coordinate daily workshop activities and assign repair orders to service technicians using our Dealer Management System.
• Oversee the daily operations of the workshop, managing a team of over 30 technicians and apprentices.
• Manage the workshop team to maximise productivity, efficiency, and profitability.
• Maintain an on‑time delivery rate to enhance customer satisfaction.
• Identify technician strengths and weaknesses to allocate work effectively while creating opportunities to develop the team's skills.
• Work closely with Service Advisors to communicate vehicle progress and any additional work needed to customers.:
• Monitor and improve job throughput to enhance overall efficiency and productivity.
• Foster a supportive environment focused on customer satisfaction and team collaboration.
• Collaborate with the Workshop Manager to implement best practices and streamline processes.
• Maintain high standards of service quality and ensure compliance with Mercedes‑Benz protocols.
• Analyse workflow and identify areas for improvement, ensuring that all operations align with dealership efficiency standards.

Desired Skills and Experience

About You:

• Previous dealership experience as a Workshop Controller or Workshop Manager.
• Utilise dealership training and experience, particularly within Mercedes‑Benz or European brands, to drive efficiencies in the workshop.
• Ability to maintain workshop productivity and efficiency levels.
• Strong organisation and leadership skills with the ability to coach and mentor, including apprentices.
• Be reliable, self‑motivated, and have a great work ethic.
• Demonstrate a high degree of teamwork with the ability to work within a dynamic workshop environment.
• Hold a current Australian driver's license.
