Job summary

Austal in Henderson, WA, is seeking a Workshop Construction Manager to lead and coordinate workshop fabrication, assembly, coating, outfitting and pre-installation activities. You will drive construction strategies, production sequencing, and resource planning to meet program objectives.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent, strong data analytics, and at least 5 years in manufacturing or heavy industry, with 3+ years supervising teams.

Based in Henderson the Workshop Construction Manager will be responsible for leading and managing workshop construction operations, overseeing the execution of fabrication, assembly, coating, outfitting and pre-installation activities. The role provides operational leadership across the workshop scope, establishing construction strategies, production sequencing, and resource plans to achieve program objectives.

• Lead daily manufacturing operations, managing production priorities, resolving issues and ensuring output targets are achieved safely and efficiently.
• Accountable cost performance and budget control, maintaining strong CAM governance and driving cost-effective delivery outcomes.
• Support new product introductions, change management activities and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production capability and efficiency.
• Monitor production schedules, productivity, equipment utilisation and key performance indicators to optimise operational performance.
• Lead, mentor and develop supervisors, coordinators and production personnel, fostering a high-performing, accountable and engaged workforce.
• Ensure products are manufactured in accordance with engineering specifications, quality standards and regulatory requirements, while supporting audit activities and corrective actions.
• Champion a strong safety culture by proactively managing risks, addressing hazards and ensuring compliance with company policies, industry standards and workplace safety requirements.

You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or Trade Qualification in relevant field
• Strong data analytic capability with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights
• Proven capability operating in highly regulated or governance-driven environments such as Defence or heavy industry
• 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing or fabrication
• 3+ years experience supervising production teams
• Eligibility for a Defence Security Clearance
