Job summary

Dubbo Regional Council in Dubbo, NSW, seeks a WHS Officer to lead practical health and safety management across outdoor and office environments. You will identify risks, develop documentation, and promote a culture where all workers thrive. You’ll engage with teams to drive safety initiatives and continuous improvement while supporting wellbeing.

Qualifications

  • A Certificate IV in WHS or related field, or strong operational experience deemed equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with employees and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Proven experience undertaking risk assessments and mitigating potential hazards.
  • Experience in conducting audits and inspections to ensure compliance with legislation and regulations.
  • Knowledge and experience with safety management systems and related technology.

  • Manage and improve workplace health and safety across our council operations.
  • Identify and analyse risks and hazards and develop appropriate documentation and solutions.
  • Promote a positive safety culture and contribute to safety initiatives and performance improvement.
  • Collaborate with staff to build awareness and positive safety behaviours and attitudes.

As a WHS Officer, you'll play an essential, hands on role in managing and improving workplace health and safety at Dubbo Regional Council. Combining the diversity of outdoors and office-based work, you'll identify and analyse risks and hazards and ensure the development of appropriate documentation and solutions to promote a work environment that allows all workers to thrive. You'll also have the opportunity to actively contribute to safety initiatives, performance improvement and foster a positive safety culture. You’ll find growth through:

  • Developing, implementing and supporting the utilisation of WHS management systems and programs.
  • Conducting WHS inspections and risk management assessments to control and eliminate risks.
  • Carrying out ergonomic/manual handling task assessments.
  • Interpreting WHS legislation and relevant codes of practices.
  • Collaborating with employees to build awareness and encourage positive safety behaviours and attitudes.

What you’ll bring

To thrive in this role, you will need:

  • A Certificate IV in WHS or a related field, or strong operational experience deemed equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interactwith employees providing support and promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Proven experience undertaking a thorough risk assessmentprocess identifying and mitigating potential hazards.
  • Experience in conducting audits and inspections to ensurecompliance with legislation and regulations.
  • Knowledge and experience with safety management systemsand related technology.

We would also love you to have:

  • Experience in local government across the breadth of business activityand applicable safety requirements.
  • General Construction Induction Card.
  • CertificateIV in workplace Training and Assessing or equivalent.

This position offers an attractive annual salary ranging from $76,485 to $88,889 Plus Superannuation
