Job summary

Nunkuwarrin Yunti of Sa Inc is seeking a Work Health Safety & Risk Officer to strengthen governance, accreditation and risk across the organisation in a culturally safe Aboriginal Community Controlled setting.

You will develop and implement WHS and risk systems, maintain the risk register, coordinate audits and lead strategic safety initiatives in collaboration with management and the Board. A strong knowledge of Australian WHS laws and risk practices is essential.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in WHS or risk management.
• Qualified in WHS or risk with certification or demonstrated equivalent capability.
• Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, regulations, codes and risk-management requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement and improve WHS and risk procedures, systems and work practices within approved organisational frameworks.

We are seeking an experienced Work Health Safety & Risk professional to support organisational WHS, risk management, governance and accreditation activities.

Play a key role in strengthening governance, accreditation, risk management, and safety across the organisation.

Job Description

About the Role

You will:

• Develop, implement, review and improve WHS and risk management procedures, systems and work practices within approved organisational frameworks, and contribute specialist advice to policy development.
• Maintain the organisational risk register and support risk owners to identify, assess, treat, monitor and report risks, including emerging and cross-program risks, trends, control effectiveness, treatment and escalation.
• Lead and coordinate assigned significant WHS and risk projects and provide specialist WHS and risk input to organisational change, operational developments and accreditation-related activities.
• Lead and coordinate WHS audits, inspections, risk assessments and workplace incident investigations, analyse findings and systemic factors, recommend corrective actions and monitor implementation.
• Prepare specialist WHS and risk reports, briefings and presentations for the WHS Committee, management, Executive and Board as required.
• Specialist knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations, codes, standards and risk management principles, including their practical application in a complex organisational environment.
• Provide WHS and risk leadership through specialist advice, coordination and collaboration. The position has no direct reports.
• Manage significant priorities and exercise specialist judgement under limited direction.
• Escalate strategic, highly significant or organisation-wide matters requiring management or executive decision.

About You

You bring:

• Significant relevant experience (3+ years) and substantial vocational skills in WHS, risk management or a related discipline.
• Relevant WHS or risk qualification, certification or demonstrated equivalent specialist capability.
• Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, regulations, codes and risk-management requirements, with experience using WHS and risk systems and registers.
• Demonstrated specialist experience in WHS and risk management within a complex organisational environment.
• Experience leading or coordinating audits, investigations, risk reviews or significant WHS improvement activities.
• Experience developing or improving WHS procedures, systems or work practices.
• Highly self-motivated, with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines in a complex environment, under limited supervision.
• High-level analytical, interpersonal and advisory capability, including trend, control and systemic analysis and practical advice on complex operational matters.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
• Demonstrated cultural capability and ability to work respectfully within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation, including knowledge of Aboriginal health, community control and culturally safe practice.

Additional Requirements

• Chief Warden training, or willingness to undertake and successfully complete Chief Warden training within three months of appointment.

Desired Skills and Experience

• Relevant degree with substantial professional experience; a relevant Associate Diploma or Diploma.
• Experience supporting clinical governance and accreditation activities.
• Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community and health services, with experience in an Aboriginal Community Controlled, health, community or not-for-profit setting.
• Working knowledge of South Australian workers compensation and Return to Work requirements and their interaction with WHS responsibilities.
• Completion of Return to Work (RTW) SA Certification Training.
