Job summary

Department of Industry, Science and Resources is seeking an EL1 WHS and Wellbeing Assistant Manager in Canberra. You will oversee WHS operations, wellbeing programs and strategic projects, coordinating incident management, risk processes and reporting while guiding a team and engaging with senior leaders to improve safety and staff wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and risk management.
• Ability to provide authoritative advice to senior leaders on WHS and wellbeing matters.
• Experience leading teams and coaching APS staff.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
• Ability to manage confidential, sensitive information with discretion.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and records management systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and assure delivery of WHS and wellbeing priorities within the stream.
• Provide authoritative, evidence-informed advice to senior leaders and stakeholders.
• Identify and respond to complex WHS and psychosocial risks and incidents.
• Translate legislation and policies into practical procedures and tools.
• Prepare clear briefs, reports and governance papers.
• Build partnerships and coordinate consultation with stakeholders.
• Coach APS staff and support capability development.
• Drive continuous improvement in WHS and wellbeing systems and governance.
