Job summary

Mulgowie Farming Company, a large Australian owned horticultural business, is seeking an experienced WHS Officer to implement, audit and continuously improve Work Health and Safety systems across multiple sites.

Reporting to the HR Manager, this role provides hands-on support to site managers and operational teams whilst leading WHS audits, inspections, investigations, corrective action management, and compliance reviews. This is a highly visible role with about 50% travel across sites.

Qualifications

• Minimum Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety.
• Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and compliance.
• Experience improving WHS systems in FMCG or fresh produce.
• 2–3 years of WHS experience in FMCG or fresh produce.
• Experience across multiple sites and dispersed teams.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven leadership and capability development ability.

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain WHS policies and safe systems of work.
• Conduct internal audits, inspections and risk assessments.
• Coordinate corrective actions from hazards, incidents and audits.
• Review investigations and verify corrective action effectiveness.
• Monitor WHS KPIs and reporting for management reviews.
• Deliver toolbox talks, training and safety awareness initiatives.
• Provide WHS advice to managers and employees across sites.
• Support continuous improvement of the Integrated Management System.

Job description

Mulgowie Farming Company is a large Australian owned and operated horticultural business, specialising in the growing, packing, marketing and distribution of fresh vegetables for domestic and export markets. Over the past 75 years, Mulgowie Farming Company has grown far and wide, with vegetable farms across Queensland, and New South Wales. The Role:

We are seeking an experienced and practical WHS Officer to support our operations by implementing, auditing and continuously improving our Work Health and Safety systems across multiple sites.

Reporting to the HR Manager, this role provides hands‑on support to site managers and operational teams whilst leading WHS audits, inspections, investigations, corrective action management, and compliance reviews.

This is a highly visible role that requires regular travel, with approximately 50% of working time spent across operational sites supporting safety performance and system compliance.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Implement and maintain WHS policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
• Conduct internal audits, inspections, workplace assessments and management system reviews.
• Coordinate corrective actions arising from hazards, incidents, near misses, investigations and audit findings.
• Review incident investigations and verify effectiveness of corrective actions.
• Monitor WHS KPIs, trends and compliance performance.
• Prepare monthly WHS reports and support management reviews.
• Deliver toolbox talks, training and safety awareness initiatives.
• Provide practical WHS advice and support to managers and employees across all sites.
• Support continuous improvement of Mulgowie's Integrated Management System.

To be successful in the position you will have:

• Minimum Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety
• Thorough working knowledge of WHS legislative requirements
• Experience in delivering pragmatic WHS systems-based improvement in the FMCG sector (ideally Fresh Produce or similar)
• Minimum 2-3 years of experience in WHS within the FMCG or Fresh Produce sector
• Experience working across multiple sites and dispersed operating teams
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to be influential and display leadership behaviours
• A life-long learning approach, and be keen to develop new skills and tackle new experiences
• An enjoyment of on-the-spot problem solving,
• An interest in and enjoyment of developing capability in others to enhance WHS understanding and compliance
• Valid Australian work rights or visa eligibility
