Job summary

AARNet, Australia’s Academic and Research Network, is seeking a WHS Advisor to embed safety practices across the infrastructure program. You will monitor safety performance, support contractor compliance, and help implement safety systems across sites.

You’ll lead site inspections, assist with incident investigations, and promote a strong safety culture with hands-on field presence while ensuring compliance with WHS legislation and internal policies.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years’ experience in a construction or infrastructure safety role.
• Strong understanding of WHS legislation and safety management systems.
• Experience conducting site inspections, audits and working in contractor-led environments.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with both office based and field teams.
• Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health & Safety (minimum requirement) and a current White Card.

Responsibilities

• Support the implementation of the Safety Management System (SMS) across all project sites.
• Conduct regular site inspections, audits and safety observations to verify compliance with safety requirements.
• Monitor adherence to Safe Work Method Statements.
• Assist in the implementation and verification of critical risk controls.
• Promote a strong safety culture through visible field presence and proactive workforce engagement.
