Job summary

The NSW Ombudsman in Sydney CBD is seeking a Whistleblower Support Specialist (Clerk Grade 7/8) to provide information and support to people making or seeking to make a public interest disclosure under the PID Act. The role emphasises empowering public officials to raise concerns with clear pathways and outcomes.

You will combine empathetic communication with the ability to navigate legislation, work both independently and in a team, and engage diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Empathetic communicator able to analyse client needs and manage expectations.
  • Strong written and oral communication with diverse stakeholders; able to prepare correspondence and reports.
  • Experience analysing sensitive matters and providing appropriate advice.
  • Ability to navigate legislation and processes and explain them clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (law and/or social work) or equivalent working experience.

Location: Sydney CBD with hybrid and flexible working options.
Employment: Ongoing
Salary Range: Up to $146,977. Package includes salary ($116,981 - $129,492), employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

The Role

The Whistleblower Support Specialist provides information and support to people who have made or are seeking to make a public interest disclosure (PID) under the Public Interest Disclosures Act 2022 (the PID Act).

The purpose of this support is to help empower public officials to raise their concerns about serious wrongdoing, and to provide them with pathways once they have done so.

About you

You are an empathetic communicator who can analyse a client’s needs, manage expectations and tailor appropriate support. You have:

Good communication skills, including the ability to communicate well with diverse stakeholders, and to prepare correspondence and reports

Experience analysing sensitive matters and providing appropriate advice

The ability to navigate legislation and processes and explain these in an audience appropriate way

The ability to work independently and as part of a team

An understanding of the statutory functions and work of the NSW Ombudsman

Relevant tertiary qualifications (such as law and/or social work) OR equivalent working experience (such as in complaint management).
