Job summary

The NSW Ombudsman is seeking a Senior Project Officer to lead the MDT Act oversight team in Sydney. You will monitor the Mandatory Disease Testing Act 2021, report on its operation, and contribute to policy analysis and strategic advice.

Salary Range: Up to $166,786. Package includes salary ($133,348 – $146,945), employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

The Role

The Public Interest Disclosures and Complaints-Handling Systems Oversight Branch oversights the Public Interest Disclosure (PID) legislation, the complaint handling systems of government agencies and the Mandatory Disease Testing Act 2021 (MDT Act). The Senior Project Officer (SPO) will have primary responsibility for leading the team which monitors and reports on the operation and administration of the MDT Act, but may also be required to assist with projects relating to PID from time to time.

The Senior Project Officer (SPO) is responsible for the development, planning and finalisation of projects focused on the oversight of the MDT Act. They undertake and contribute to the preparation of public reports, strategic inquiries, research, projects and systemic reviews efficiently and with a high degree of expertise. The SPO provides policy analysis and strategic advice to senior staff on emerging issues and strategies to address them.

The SPO may work on projects independently or as part of a team, as needed. The work undertaken by the SPO involves evaluation of data from internal and external sources, research and analysis that focuses on monitoring and reporting on the operation and administration of the MDT Act.

About you

Tertiary qualification in discipline relevant to research, law, policy analysis, data analysis or equivalent experience

You will have experience in the preparation of reports on complex investigations or reviews of the operation of legislation, and an ability to draw on research and analysis to effectively communicate the Ombudsman’s monitoring of the operation and administration of mandatory disease testing legislation and make recommendations to improve the scheme in the public interest.

You will have experience in identifying and obtaining relevant information from agencies and stakeholders utilising available legislated powers, and skills in improving systems for recording, storing and accessing that information in context of privacy laws and state records.
