Job summary

Sterling NT in Darwin is seeking a grounds maintenance assistant to maintain landscaped areas and operate mowing equipment to the site schedule. You will mow lawns, trim edges, remove debris, and support routine equipment maintenance, while adhering to safety and environmental policies.

Ideal candidates are physically fit, able to work outdoors, and hold a Class C Driver’s Licence (manual). A horticulture qualification and a Working with Children Card are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work under supervision and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and protocols.
• Be physically able to perform duties outdoors for long periods.
• Certificate I or equivalent in horticulture is desirable.
• Working with Children Card (or willingness to obtain) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Mow lawns using ride-on mowers and manual equipment.
• Cut edges with hand tools and whipper snipper.
• Remove litter from garden beds and driveways.
• Remove dead branches and leaves.

JOB OVERVIEW

Responsible for the provision of ground maintenance services, safe and efficient operations of mowing machinery to ensure our client’s landscaped grounds are maintained as per the site schedule and specifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION

• Mow Lawns using ride on mowers (front deck & Ztrack).
• Cut edges with hand and whipper snipper.
• Remove litter from garden beds and driveways.
• Remove dead branches and leaves.
• Performing routine maintenance on mowing equipment
• Tasks to be carried out in a manner that causes the least inconvenience to customers, staff and the general public.
• Temporary warning signs placed when required.
• Operate equipment and machinery in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations and the SNT operating procedures
• Report maintenance and repair issues to the area supervisor.
• Understand and comply with quality, safety, health and environmental policies.
• Follow written instructions, verbal direction and procedures to perform work.
• Challenge any instructions that you believe places anyone or the environment at risk.
• Take personal responsibility to protect the health and safety of people or the environment.

Skills and Experiences

SELECTION CRITERIA

ESSENTIALS

• Class C Driver’s Licence (manual)
• Ability to work under supervision and as a team member.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and protocols.
• A satisfactory National Police Security Check Report.
• Be physically able to perform the duties of the position
• Be able to perform manual work for long periods outdoors

DESIRABLE

• Certificate I or equivalent qualification in horticulture.
