Job Description

HELLO AUSSIE STUDENT SERVICES An opportunity is available for a skilled and experienced Welder (First Class) to undertake welding, metal joining and associated fabrication activities supporting residential and commercial building projects. The position is associated with a building and construction business delivering new residential construction, home renovations, knock-down and rebuild projects, building extensions, maintenance and related construction works.

The successful applicant will undertake practical welding activities involving steel components, fabricated metal assemblies, frames, brackets, supports, connection components and other metal elements required for applicable construction projects. Working collaboratively with construction supervisors, tradespeople, subcontractors and relevant fabrication personnel, the Welder will be responsible for preparing, positioning, welding, inspecting and finishing metal components in accordance with approved drawings, technical specifications, applicable standards and workplace safety requirements. This is a hands-on trade position requiring demonstrated welding competency, practical metal fabrication experience, sound technical judgement and consistent workmanship.

Benefits Annual Base Salary: AUD $98,500, excluding superannuation. Superannuation: 12% employer contribution in accordance with applicable legislation. Employment Type: Full-time, ongoing.

Ordinary Working Hours: 38 hours per week. Work Location: Greater Sydney, New South Wales.

Duties may be performed at designated construction sites and associated fabrication facilities, as required. The position offers an opportunity to contribute skilled welding and metal fabrication expertise to building and construction projects, with an emphasis on safety, technical accuracy, workmanship and coordinated project delivery.

Task & responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

• Welding and Metal Joining -Reading and interpreting fabrication drawings, engineering sketches, welding symbols, technical specifications and work instructions to determine welding requirements.
• Selecting suitable welding equipment, consumables and preparation methods in accordance with approved procedures and assigned tasks.
• Setting up and operating welding equipment to join steel components and fabricated metal assemblies using appropriate welding processes.
• Performing manual metal arc welding (SMAW/MMA) and gas-shielded wire welding where specified and within demonstrated competency.
• Welding steel sections, brackets, supports, frames, connection components and other fabricated metal elements used in construction-related applications.
• Preparing metal surfaces and welding joints through appropriate cleaning, grinding, cutting and joint preparation methods.
• Carrying out tack welding, component positioning and alignment checks before completing welded assemblies.
• Monitoring welding conditions and equipment settings to achieve consistent weld quality in accordance with applicable procedures.
• Metal Fabrication and Assembly -Measuring, marking out, positioning and aligning steel components using appropriate measuring tools, clamps, fixtures and fabrication equipment.
• Preparing and assembling fabricated metal components in accordance with relevant drawings and manufacturing requirements.
• Undertaking welding and associated fabrication work on steel components used in residential and commercial building projects.
• Assisting with the fitting and assembly of fabricated metal components as required by assigned construction or workshop activities.
• Checking component dimensions, alignment and fit-up against relevant technical specifications.
• Coordinating fabrication and welding tasks with supervisors and other trades to support efficient project delivery.
• Quality Control and Technical Compliance -Visually inspecting completed welds for surface defects, discontinuities and workmanship issues.
• Checking welded components for dimensional accuracy, alignment and conformity with applicable fabrication requirements.
• Identifying welding defects and undertaking authorised rectification or rework when required.
• Cleaning, grinding and finishing welded joints and metal surfaces as specified.
• Following approved welding procedures, technical documentation and applicable quality-control requirements.
• Maintaining accurate workmanship and contributing to the quality of completed construction-related metal components.
• Workplace Safety and Coordination -Operating welding equipment, grinders and associated fabrication tools safely and correctly.
• Applying appropriate hot-work controls, fire-prevention measures and safe handling procedures.
• Using personal protective equipment and complying with applicable workplace health and safety requirements.
• Maintaining tools, welding equipment and work areas in a safe, clean and serviceable condition.
• Working effectively with site supervisors, fabrication personnel, contractors and other construction trades.
• Completing assigned welding activities in accordance with project requirements, production priorities and relevant safety procedures.
