Job summary

Gilmour Space on the Bowen/QLD corridor is seeking a skilled Welder to join our advanced fabrication team. You will weld, assemble and fabricate metal structures for rocket components in a state-of-the-art facility between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, delivering precision work for space propulsion systems.

You will read drawings, follow detailed work instructions, and uphold tight tolerances while operating forklifts, cranes and heavy equipment.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade.
• MIG and TIG welding of aluminium to a high standard.
• NV1 Security Clearance eligible preferred.

Responsibilities

• Weld, assemble, and fabricate various metal structures and sub-assembly components
• Work with hand tools, grinders, linishers etc.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, and follow detailed work instructions
• Meet tasking targets set by supervisor
• Check work after completion of each operation in job and/or completed job to ensure it is complete per drawing
• Work to tight tolerances
• Operate forklifts, cranes, and heavy equipment
• Perform cutting, filing, and weld preparation of sheet metal and plate piece parts
• Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment

How you will contribute to our mission in getting Australia to space:

• Weld, assemble, and fabricate various metal structures and sub-assembly components
• Work with hand tools, grinders, linishers etc.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, and follow detailed work instructions

Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade
• MIG and TIG welding of aluminium to a high standard
• NV1 Security Clearance eligible preferred

Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• 2 + years of welding experience
• 5+ years of experience in welding with one or more of the following materials: stainless steel, carbon steel, Inconel, aluminium or titanium
• Experience in aerospace, aviation or motorsport where tight tolerances must be achieved
• Jobbing shop experience
• Proficient in blueprint reading and lay out
• Knowledge and experience completing welds that pass visual before being X-rayed or dye penned
• Current Forklift and/or confined space licence
