Job summary

South Staffordshire Water is seeking a Technical Operator to ensure safe, efficient operation of water treatment sites. You’ll maintain plant performance, manage maintenance schedules, and collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders. Relocation support may be available for qualified candidates willing to move closer to Cambridge operational area.

The role combines hands-on technical work with problem-solving and continuous learning in a regulated water environment.

Qualifications

• Electrical or mechanical background essential.
• Experience in the water industry desirable but not essential.
• Good IT skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Proactive and safety-focused mindset; able to review risk assessments.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, and maintain strategic source water treatment sites.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and respond to breakdowns to restore operations.
• Perform basic electrical and mechanical tasks as part of routine maintenance and repair.
• Apply technical knowledge to troubleshoot, repair, and improve plant equipment.
• Plan and prioritise workload to meet maintenance schedule.
• Work to health, safety, and environmental standards with safe systems of work.
• Review risk assessments and safe working procedures; challenge practices where needed.
• Ensure quality standards and compliance procedures are met.
• Build strong relationships with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Demonstrate understanding of site design, processes, and operational principles.
