Job summary

Taronga Zoo Sydney is seeking an experienced Water Systems Operator to join our Asset Management team on a full-time basis. This hands-on role operates across the zoo, including on exhibit water systems, to maintain water quality and system integrity.

You will perform maintenance, testing, and restoration tasks, monitor disinfection levels, and comply with safety and sustainability targets while coordinating with the Supervisor of Water Systems.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification or equivalent experience in operation of Water Systems related to Water Treatment Plants, Reticulation Systems and Water Treatment Plant processes.
• Willingness to complete Certificate III in Water Operations.
• Hold a NSW Driver's Licence (including manual where applicable).
• Vaccination records for Q Fever and Hepatitis A.
• Willingness to undergo pre-placement medical examination; Taronga will cover Musculoskeletal and Fitness Assessment.

Responsibilities

• Perform water systems maintenance, including water quality testing, restoration, repairs, housekeeping and construction on site.
• Develop skills in operating water and sewerage treatment and reticulation systems safely.
• Monitor water systems to ensure disinfection and quality standards.
• Adhere to requisition systems and complete projects efficiently.
• Maintain tools, vehicles and machinery in safe working condition.
• Support sustainability practices to help Taronga meet targets.

Taronga Zoo Sydney is looking for an experienced and motivated Water Systems Operator to join our Asset Management team!

• Located at Sydney’s Iconic - Taronga Zoo – Cammeraigal Country
• Full-time, ongoing position
• TCSA Wages Award, Water Systems Operator, Base salary $ 75,914 + 12% superannuation + allowances where applicable

The role of Full Time Water Systems Technician/ Operator at Taronga Zoo is a truly unique working environment, where your day to day is different every day! You’ll be working across the zoo + on exhibits with tigers, seals, pygmy hippos, lions, and so much more!

About the Role…

The Water Systems Operator will provide a broad range of skills across the water systems for cyclic maintenance, restoration, repairs and ensure water quality is maintained at the acceptable standards.

• Perform all types of duties associated with all water systems maintenance, including but not limited to; Water quality testing and recording, commissioning restoration repairs, general housekeeping and construction work as directed on the zoo site.
• To develop skills in the operation of the water and/or sewerage treatment and reticulation systems in a safe manner.
• Monitor the operation of all water systems to ensure appropriate levels of disinfection and water quality is provided consistent with relevant standards and requirements.
• Adhere to works requisition system and follow through with projects in an efficient and effective manner.
• Ensure work is performed in a timely, cost effective manner to prescribed quality standards to meet stakeholder and Taronga’s needs.
• Perform all trade and non-trade related work activities as scheduled / allocated and instructed by the Supervisor, Water Systems.
• Maintain Taronga tools, vehicles and machinery in a sound and safe working condition.
• Comply and suggest sustainability practices in the workplace to help achieve Taronga’s sustainability targets and reduce the environmental impact.

About You…

We are looking for candidates that have:

• Relevant trade qualification or equivalent experience in the operation of Water Systems related to Water Treatment Plants, Reticulation Systems and Water Treatment Plant processes
• Completed or willingness to complete Certificate III in Water Operations
• Hold a current NSW Drivers License or ability to have existing license formally recognised, including manual.
• Current vaccinations records for Q Fever, Hepatitis A maintained at your own expense.
• Willingness to undergo pre-placement medical examination:
• Pre employment Musculoskeletal and Fitness Assessment *Taronga will pay for this
