Job summary

Hatch seeks a Water Resources Engineer to join the Sydney civil/hydrotechnical team. You’ll apply hydrology and hydraulics to diverse mining, energy and infrastructure projects, delivering practical water resources solutions while advancing your career in a collaborative environment.

You will undertake hydro and flood modelling, prepare technical reports, and contribute to project planning, cost estimates, and multidisciplinary design efforts, mentoring junior engineers along the way.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with a strong hydrology/ hydraulics foundation.
• Experience delivering water resources projects across mining, energy, or infrastructure.
• Proven ability to write clear technical reports and communicate with clients.
• Experience with hydrological, hydraulic, and flood modelling studies.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Water Resources Engineer to join our Sydney-based Civil/Hydrotechnical team. What You’ll Do

• Undertake hydrological and hydraulic modelling and assessments
• Deliver flood modelling and flood impact assessments
• Prepare and review technical reports and engineering documentation
• Develop and review project proposals and study deliverables
• Provide input into engineering design, project planning and cost estimates
• Mentor and support junior engineers and graduates
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across a variety of projects
• Build strong client relationships and contribute to successful project outcomes

About You

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.You are a collaborative and solutions-focused engineer with experience delivering water resources projects across mining, energy, infrastructure, or consulting environments. With a strong foundation in hydrology and hydraulics, you enjoy solving complex challenges, building trusted client relationships, and working as part of multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical, sustainable outcomes.

You will also bring:

• Experience undertaking hydrological, hydraulic, and flood modelling studies
• Strong technical writing, analysis, and communication skills
• Proficiency with industry-standard tools such as QGIS, RORB, XP-RAFTS, URBS, TUFLOW, MUSIC, and HEC-RAS (1D and 2D)
• The ability to balance multiple priorities and contribute across a diverse project portfolio
• A willingness to coach, mentor, and support the development of junior engineers
• A collaborative mindset and commitment to fostering an inclusive team culture

Experience in water balance modelling, stormwater management, Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD), sediment transport assessments, water supply systems, or flood forecasting and warning systems will be highly regarded. RPEQ and/or CPEng accreditation is preferred. Above all, you are passionate about delivering innovative water resources solutions that create lasting value for clients, communities, and the environment.
