Job summary

Murray River Council is seeking an entry-level team member for the Water Services group to operate and maintain water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure under supervision.

You will undergo training and work under compliance with relevant legislation and council policies. Key duties include monitoring control systems, testing water quality, and providing customer service while developing essential skills in water treatment and distribution.

Qualifications

• Commitment to continuing professional development as part of the role.
• Mandatory driver’s licence and police check are required.
• First aid and pre-employment medical clearance are required.
• Trade qualification in plumbing or construction with water treatment knowledge.
• Experience with water control systems and backflow prevention is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain water and sewer plant, reservoirs, and pumping systems.
• Monitor electronic control systems and respond to faults.
• Undertake water quality testing in line with Australian Standards.
• Undertake repairs and maintenance on mains and infrastructure.
• Provide professional customer service to internal and external customers.
• Operate water smart meter systems and maintenance.
• Investigate and report water meter issues; ensure plant reliability.

About the Opportunity

This is an entry level position with the Water Services team, the successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining the council’s water, sewer, and stored stormwater infrastructure under supervision. This position in an essential service that requires compliance with the relevant legislation, Murray River Council Policies and Procedures in which training will be provided as part of the role.

Duties include (but not limited to):

• Operate and maintain water and sewer plant, reservoirs, and pumping systems.
• Monitor electronic control systems and respond to faults.
• Undertake and record water quality testing in accordance with Australian Standards.
• Undertake repairs and maintenance on mains and other infrastructure.
• Provide professional customer service to internal and external customers.
• Undertake water smart meter systems and maintenance.
• Investigate, report, and resolve water meter matters.
• Ensure plant is maintained in good working order, with breakdowns minimised.
